Constitutionality Only Question for Court in Title Suit

Texas Attorney General Claude Pollard said the state supreme court will decide early this fall on the constitutionality of Senator Clint Small’s bill affecting navigable streams and river bed titles. He noted the Bradford case was reframed to allow demurrers and that no further suits would be filed unless the law’s validity is determined. Pollard also declined to say whether he would run for governor.

Sanford Hurt In Car Wreck Near Vaughn

J. M. Sanford, a longtime southwest cattleman, and his son Elliott were injured when their car overturned after a tire blew on Highway about ten miles west of Vaughn New Mexico. Passersby freed them and rushed them to a Vaughan hotel for treatment. J. M. Sanford suffered two fractured ribs and severe bruises while Elliott’s back injuries were described as serious.

Plane Propeller Fatality At Vernon Airport

Six year old Harriett Shaner died in Vernon Texas after being struck by an airplane propeller at the Vernon airport opening event. She had ridden with her parents and ran under the propeller when alighting. The incident occurred during the opening program.

Senter to enter Texas governor race

Senator E. G. Senter of Dallas announces candidacy for Texas governor at a Texas Bar association meeting. Woman Loses Arm In Highway 66 Wreck Near Here

A heavy sedan overturned 12 miles east of the city on Highway 66. Mrs Jimi Hughes of Coyote and her daughter Mrs John Kirby of Sabens were hospitalized. Hughes had a forearm crushed and was amputated. Kirby had minor bruises. La Fern West received minor injuries but was sent home.

Two union men were killed and hundreds injured as striking street car workers clashed with non union workers and police in New Orleans. Mob violence destroyed street cars, damaged a company trouble car, and blocked tracks as authorities struggled to regain control.

Grand jurors quit without making report in Potter county

The Potter county grand jury for the spring term adjourned yesterday without a report. Over 30 indictments for felonies and one misdemeanor were returned during the ten week term. Foreman M. W. Lemons said 24 of 28 indictments tried led to convictions. Five bills were returned at final session four felonies and one misdemeanor. Indictments included theft of property from Amarillo area and related offenses.

FIRE DESTROYS WHEAT STACKS NEAR SHATTUCK OKLA

Special to The SHATTUCK Okla July 1 Fire today wiped out Miller farm wheat stacks four miles southeast of Shattuck destroying about two hundred bushels of grain. Altus Oklahoma July 5 A farmer near Olustee named B Scriggins was arrested by Jackson county officers and held for Clarendon Texas authorities on a murder charge. Sheriff Sam Banks and Deputy Lugher Bush made the arrest after receiving word.
