Eight Escape Death When Plane Falls
An army transport plane with eight aboard lost engine power at about 2000 feet near Alexandria Virginia. Captain Myron M Wood directed seven crew to discard parachutes and gather in the rear while he guided a forced landing on the Potomac. All survived though Private Thomas Standeven was knocked unconscious and carried underwater before rescue.

Fifty Acres Wheat Burn at Spearman
Fifty acres of wheat and 200 acres of grain stubble burned on the Schmidt farm twelve miles southeast of Spearman when the wheat ignited from a harvesting tractor. No injuries or machinery damage were reported. The fire swept a high grade grain area yielding about 30 bushels per acre.

Omaha Negro Shoots Up Ten Cent Store
In Omaha Nebraska on July 5 Bill Lewis a 25 year old negro porter ran amuck in a local five and ten cent store restaurant shooting two women clerks. Nine Babe Dodson 21 was shot in the breast and Julia Conner mother of eight was shot in the leg. Both victims expected to recover. Lewis was taken to the police station then to the state penitentiary for safekeeping and made no comment beyond saying the girls had called his mother names.
