A Phillips gas well at Sanford, near Borger, ignited by a friction spark and burning to 150 feet, threatens nearby buildings. No injuries reported to a driller and tool dresser. previous explosion killed seven and injured eight. No plan to extinguish given. incident marks a third gas fire in Sanford in three months.
The Truett revival at First Baptist grows in attendance as Dr. Truett delivers a sermon on He Lingered. He warns that lingering between duty and salvation harms the soul and cites God’s methods to influence men toward salvation. The packed church praises the wisdom and inspiration of the service.
The forecast covers Amarillo and vicinity and West Texas for Wednesday with fair conditions. It notes generally fair weather for New Mexico, high pressure over the Ohio valley and Northwest, lower temperatures in the Dakotas and Southwest, and showers in Southeast and northern Rocky Mountain areas.

Benjamin Bonart a retired Galveston merchant aged 68 died at his home after moving from New Orleans to Galveston in 1881. He is survived by his widow and four children.
Sheriff in Donley County has detained a negro man linked to the Weatherby killings near Hedley. Four victims buried in one casket. authorities seek other residents and review visit reports to the Weatherby home since June 24.
Sheriff W A Pierce said no prints were taken at Frank Weatherby home near Alanreed. Visitors had touched door knobs crow bar and hammer before officers arrived, hindering evidence. A jailed negro suspect, not yet charged, is held for information as investigators press for details.
United Press reports passenger service between Minneapolis Saint Paul and Chicago began with pilot Charles Holman taking off at 2 40 p m aboard a Stinson Detroiter. L R S Ferguson represents St Paul and a business delegate joins the trip with stops in La Crosse and Milwaukee en route to Chicago. Fares from Minneapolis to Chicago set at 40 dollars.
The American Legion convention in Houston on July 5 approved multiple resolutions. They seek federal action to imprison draft evader Grover Cleveland Bergdorf if he returns from Germany, nominate WW veterans for honored citizen status, make May 30 a legal holiday for grave decoration, retire disabled emergency officers with equal pay, and reestablish foreign service credit toward army retirement.
A Fourth of July holiday express train collided with a freight train at Sonia Island Station New York. Five people were killed and many injured as passengers in the front coach were telescoped into the baggage car. Boy scouts marines and tourists aided rescue workers at the scene.
Geneva July 5 The tri partite naval conference stands at a decisive moment as the United States signals willingness to push cruiser tonnage toward 400 000 while seeking to keep limits below that figure. British Admiral Bridgeman notes Britain faces food supply interception risks and confirms the talks teeter on a precipice with prospects not bright.
Amarillo will host the 1928 joint convention of the Texas units of the national Association of Letter Carriers and the American Association of Postal Clerks. About 200 to 800 delegates are expected. Buck Coleman and Roy Slay represented Amarillo at the Austin session. The convention runs July 4 and 5 with officers elected for both groups and a delegation named for the national meeting in Indianapolis.
Fresno woman Clara Drummond aged 21 has reportedly slept for 90 days after brain gas poisoning. Dr. George Parrish, Los Angeles health officer, seeks a complete case record and Fresno officials to review her treatment amid findings of paralysis and bone infection. Dr. W. J. Peacock says she shows improvement though in grave condition.
Judge J. N. Kellis aged 101, a Mexican War survivor, Confederate veteran, Indian fighter, Mason, and Baptist preacher since 1866, died Sunday night from paralysis. He was buried in Sterling City with services led by Dr. W. B. Averitt and Rev. J. D. McWhorter. four grandsons served as pallbearers as the Sterling Masonic lodge oversaw burial.
Three bandits held up two Tacoma Railway and Power Company messengers today, escaping in an automobile with the loot totaling about $5,000. Police sought suspects in the July 5 incident reported from Tacoma, Washington.
A major blaze on the Atlantic City boardwalk razed a block between Missouri and Arkansas avenues. Three firemen were overcome by heat and smoke as flames spread from the Board Walk restaurant, threatening the million dollar pier. Over 500 people were left homeless, with eight to ten homes destroyed and several hotels damaged, including the Prescott Regent and Bella Napoli.
Ten thousand teachers gathered in Seattle as the National Education Association met in convention. Nomination of officers closed with Miss Cornelia S Adair of Richmond Va named next president, the first classroom teacher elected to the post. A resolution opposed the Tennessee evolution law and similar state statutes restricting teaching certain subjects.
Mrs Susie Pool 29 wife of Roy Pool manager of Pool Drug died at a local hospital at 4 yesterday afternoon. She is survived by husband daughter Suzie Boaz 14 father J A McCluney Kerens Texas and aunt Miss Cora McCluney Miami. She belonged to Polk Street Methodist church and Eastern Star.
