Martin, a physicist with the University of California at Los Alamos, was climbing with seven companions who lacked proper gear. His body was taken to Telluride as authorities awaited his father's arrival.

A light plane crash 11 miles northeast of Fort Worth at J. H. Mangham airport near Smithfield left two men with serious head injuries. LT Leonard A. Washburn, 25, from Carswell Air Force Base, and Fred R. Todd, 24, of Fort Worth, were treated for injuries.
Funeral arrangements for Linda Ann Flowers eight daughter of Mr and Mrs Theodore Flowers 210 Madison announced by North Hughes Funeral Home. Linda died after being shot by a playmate in the Madison Moore alley. A four year old boy retrieved a pistol from a visiting man’s car and gave it to an eight year old who fired it striking Linda. Police will take no action as children under ten are not held responsible. Survivors include her parents three sisters a brother and four grandparents.

Greta Patterson 18, of Batavia New York, becomes the first to swim Lake Erie from Angola Beach to Crystal Beach. The crossing took 13 hours from 6 30 a m to 7 30 p m with a pace near 18 strokes a minute and nourishment breaks. She eyes a 32 mile Lake Ontario crossing next for Toronto.
Sen Lyndon Johnson of Texas, recovering from a heart attack, was reported to have a comfortable day with satisfactory progress but a serious condition. Bethesda hospital said no further update would be given until tomorrow morning. Johnson, Senate Democratic leader, will not return before adjournment. Sen Clements will fill in as majority leader.
Nikita Khrushchev and Soviet leaders attended the U S Embassy Fourth of July party in Moscow. Khrushchev offered remarks on Geneva and war risks while Bulganin toasted the upcoming Big Four summit. The visit marked the first time top Soviet officials joined the embassy parade in Moscow.
A Maltese cat at Hudson Oil Co. in St. Louis kept attendants busy as it attempted to hitch a ride west. Found under a car hood from St. Louis, the cat ignored eastbound traffic and attracted puzzled looks from California-bound drivers. The unnamed driver who brought it in was displeased with the feline stowaway’s plans.
