Washington July 3 Sen Lyndon Johnson announced a 956 000 REA loan to Swisher County Electric Coop Tulsa to build 88 miles of new lines and bring service to 346 rural consumers. Funds will improve the distribution system including 40 miles of transmission lines and 7 miles of tie lines. The coop serves Swisher Castro Armstrong Randall Hale and Finiscoe counties. A W Miller is president.
The Senate Foreign Relations committee approved four resolutions by Sen. Price Daniel to tighten controls on illicit narcotics. They urge top level talks with Mexico to curb border trafficking and call on nations to sign the 1953 limitation protocol limiting production to medical and scientific needs.
Lightning struck Cities Service oil tank farm five miles west of Pampa Texas on Texas Highway 152. Two tanks exploded with two to three feet of oil. a third tank burned sending 50 to 100 feet plumes and oil in a ground spread. Firefighters faced numerous flash backs and tow-recovered equipment delays. Alarm at 4 40 p m.
Nancy Giddens, 16, daughter of Oklahoma City police inspector Bert Giddens, was arrested for driving the wrong way on a one way street. She paid a $5 fine at police headquarters and received a 30 day grounding, prohibiting driving the family car.

Sen Mike Monroney captured the Democratic nomination for a second term in Oklahoma's primary. He led by more than two to one, with 707 of 3,213 precincts reporting Monroney at 46,510 votes while Doenges and Fox trailed. McKeever won the Republican nomination to oppose him. Vote details showed shifting leads in the Wickersham Morris contest and heavy ballots in western Oklahoma amid long delays. Main interest in Texas County centered on the six-man Democratic sheriff race with incumbent James Tucker among candidates.
The City Commission authorized increases for business lines and most residential plans for Southwestern Bell, approving $11.50 for business phones and $4.75 for one party residential, with $4.00 for two party and $3.00 for four party residential. Current rates were $10.00, $4.50, $3.75, and $2.75 respectively. The company plans a trial period and may revisit if outcomes are poor. Mayor Jordan defended the decision as fair to support city growth.
