The project would provide an auxiliary water supply for Amarillo, aid Tucumcari and Amarillo irrigation, and become a major Southwest works project with an estimated 4.5 million dollar appropriation. The dam would be built at the confluence of the South Canadian and Conchas rivers northeast of Tucumcari to reduce flood losses and secure water for regional needs.
