Free Fourth of July Fireworks at Dick Bivins Stadium
The 16th annual Free Fourth of July Fireworks Show Friday at Dick Bivins Stadium features a 224 piece aerial production and twelve ground exhibits including the Grand Opening Panorama and Statue of Liberty. Fireworks expert Norman V. Burnett of Enid Oklahoma assembled effects not seen before in the city shows. The event opens at 8 45 p m with a volunteer band concert from Tascosa Caprock and Amarillo high schools, led by Bill Porter, and the fireworks begin at 9 45 p m with Wes Izzard as master of ceremonies. A four member U S Army Reserve color guard will handle flag lowering. Ground exhibits include Snoopy and the Red Baron Evergreen Forest and Niagara Falls among others with an aerial program of bombs star shells comets and color changing flowers.

An Amarillo woman identified as Judy Carter Barnett, 22, of 1614 S Madison Apt 2, was shot to death at her duplex home early today. A man who reported the shooting by telephone before 12:30 a.m. was taken into custody and questioned. A small child was taken to the station by officers. The body, fully clothed, lay face up in a bedroom beside the living area. a gun was found at the scene. The death was pronounced at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bonita Potter. The shooter’s exact bullet count and body entry point were not yet known.
