Beverly Hills July 2 Woes Rogers criticizes holding company complicity and warns of swindling in installment plans. He notes Congress acted but suspects human nature favors deals over trust and insists first payments often cover total costs.
Miss Sarah Conwell, about 50, defied a contempt ruling in 47th District Court and was jailed after refusing to surrender stock certificates to Court Reporter Norman Minter. The case stems from a suit over $18,700 in Texas Plains Building and Loan stock, now insolvent. the court ordered certificates turned in to cancel the reporter's copy and for First Federal to issue shares and compensate her.
Texas Prison Board, in a 3 to 2 vote, refused to demote I. K. Kelley manager of the Retrieve prison farm. The move followed an investigation into alleged brutal treatment of prisoners by a special legislative committee. Vice chairman Joseph Werden of Victoria opposed the demotion.
Funeral services were held for Richard Kirkland, 8, who died after a black widow spider bite. His parents said he was bitten by an insect while sleeping Sunday night and grew violently ill. a black widow spider was later found in the room. A physician attributed the death to the bite.
Pravda reports Russia condemns eight Japanese Manchukuoan incursions on Soviet soil and warns of serious consequences for USSR Japan relations. Red Star joins call to end incursions as Baltic Fleet bolsters defences against German naval move. Ambassador Yurenev delivered the note in Tokyo.
World War veterans from Germany and former allies gathered in Paris in a reconciliation meeting. They, representing 16,000,600 members, passed a resolution advocating peace and the abolition of war like policies. Beforehand, the German delegation laid a wreath at the tomb of France's Unknown Soldier and saluted allied flags at the Arc de Triomphe.
Two masked men robbed the State Bank of Seneca Missouri just after noon this July 2 and fled with about 800 dollars as cashier R L Hughes fired at their car. Local authorities investigate the daylight heist in Joplin area.

Rain fell in scattered Panhandle towns but Amarillo and Potter County saw no measurable moisture. Clarendon, Memphis, Quitaque, Estelline, Childress, Allison, Wheeler County near the Oklahoma line, Conway, Stinnett, Sanford, Canyon, Texico, and Hartley recorded varying amounts from a light to moderate shower, leaving the drouth grip in the region.
Fair and continued warm for Amarillo and vicinity. West Texas west of 190th Meridian partly cloudy. New Mexico generally fair with little temperature change. Temperature readings from yesterday show gradual daytime highs around early afternoon.
Tom Mooney will demand personal presence at habeas corpus hearings before the California State Supreme Court. Attorneys said the request will be the first question when hearings open tomorrow in San Quentin.

In Washington on July 2, Amarillo Congressman Marvin Jones and Texas highway engineer Gib Gilchrist urged inclusion of Highway 60 from Amarillo to Farwell in the Panhandle road program. They pressed for early action by Thomas H. MacDonald, chief of the Bureau of Public Roads, after discussions with Jones and Gilchrist.

Congress man Martin Dies of Orange predicted the AAA and Bankhead Act would die by Supreme Court ruling. He urged Texas lawmakers to adopt a domestic allotment plan for cotton, placing farmers on a protected basis like manufacturers. He spoke at a cotton investigation hearing with J. E. McDonald, arguing allotments would be land based and auto controlled to keep U S export markets.
A large secret Army Air Corps bomber, believed to reach speeds near 250 mph, was assembled at Boeing Field Seattle. Reported to have a 105 foot wingspan and four engines, the craft was wheeled from the factory to the field for public display as Seattle residents viewed part of the project. It is expected to be manned by eight to ten crew.
Four Illinois tourists are reported missing in New Mexico. Sheriff Randerson refused to name or describe a man held for investigation as a suspect. The sheriff was unavailable for comment.

A Creek Indian named Enos Wilson, raised on a white doorstep, is declared the richest Indian with $1. 9 million in bonds and $176k in cash plus valuable farms. He lives in the Peak Castle mansion near the Okmulgee Muskogee County line, announced by A. M. Landman of the Five Civilized Tribes.
Two former burlesque dancers Loretta Jackson and Florence Jackson aged 97 and 24 sit in cells awaiting arraignment on first degree murder charges in the robbery slaying of New York attorney Howard Carter Dickinson in Rouge Park. Accomplice William Lee Ferris 26 confessed to firing the fatal shot. third member Jean Miller 93 is a potential state witness. The quartet could plead guilty with maximum penalty life imprisonment.
Governor Allred revoked the conditional pardon previously granted to Que R Miller, former sheriff of Foard County. Ed L Gossett, district attorney for the 46th district, requested the revocation after Miller was reindicted on two counts in Wilbarger County. Miller remains in federal prison in Atlanta for counterfeiting while corrections were to arrest him on release.
More than 100 feared dead as the small passenger steamer Midori Mary sinks after a foggy collision with the freighter Senzan Maru off Shodoshima, southwest of Kobe. The Midori Maru carried 163 passengers with 85 crew. initial reports said 40 rescued and about half saved.
The House passed a substitute bill regulating utility holding companies and ordered a lobbying probe amid a tense fight over Roosevelt administration aims. Rep Brewster alleged RFC attorney Corcoran threatened to halt the Passamaquoddy project unless Brewster backed the president. The panel split 258 147 to substitute the House measure for the Senate bill and 323 81 to pass it.
