In Oklahoma at Drumright a gun battle between city and county officers and three bandits resulted in one officer killed and U S Lenox fatally wounded. Drumright chief Jack Ary was wounded and may die. Bandits fled with about $1500 from a bank and were pursued by a posse.
At Madison Square Garden on July 2 William Gibbs McAdoo surpassed 500 votes in the Democratic National Convention’s balloting, reaching 505 on the fortieth ballot. Smith trailed with 3234 votes as McAdoo’s supporters gain from Davis. Bryan’s platform speech ignited a row, solidifying Smith’s bid and threatening the two thirds rule, with twelve ballots cast across two sessions and adjournment looming to Thursday.
Prince Matsuishi Igu Kata, a Genro and elder statesman of Japan, died at age 84. He returned to Tokyo two months earlier after a serious illness that had been deemed fatal in March, with the nation mourning. Earlier reports said he had died in the September earthquake aftermath.

Dallas July 2 Texas will not bine jinto not more than 1 judicial districts with the State Bar Association. appellate judges may be candidates for re election on their own motion without fear of disqualification. Courts of civil appeals still must write opinions in cases before them. The association adopted logo recommendations and urged law changes. Jed Adams proposed taxing losing litigants with full jury costs. the resolution was tabled. Admissions to the bar would require board of legal examiners review and in Austin only. moral qualifications tightened.
Oil shot over the top of a derrick at the Wilcox Oil Company well six miles south of Pampa, producing an initial rate estimated from two to five thousand barrels daily. The 2,917 foot well, located in Grayer section, sparked widespread interest with operators predicting 1600 to 5000 barrels daily. Rotary drilling reached 2,500 feet. Prairie Oil and Gas holds 480 acres nearby and plans immediate drilling.

George Wildrick Harry B Wilson and Charles Burns convicted of a confectionery robbery escaped Curry County jail at 1 am after sawed bars. They fled on foot into northwest fields near Clovis as passes scour the region and authorities race to recapture before morning.
