Treasury estimates place next year’s expenditures at 900 million, but McAdoo says no extra bonds are needed now. Final adoption vote stood 12 to 0 with Latollette Gore and Thomas endorsing Lakollette’s income tax substitute.

BISBEE Ariz July 2 The Metal Mine Workers Industrial Union declared at a daily meeting that no settlement would be made with operators in Warren district until all other companies with industrial trouble nationwide settle with them. Pickets continue to work as shifts change.
Dallas attorney Lee J. Starling claims Felix K. Jones, jailed for a murder in Dallas, was seen talking with Florence Brown on a business street on July 27 1943 the night before her body was found. Jones is held for the murder of Thomas Lyons a wealthy New Mushe ranchman killed May 17 in El Ganey area.
In Globe and Miami on July 2, two hundred IWW members halted a passenger train while a ten member committee boarded to search for strike breakers. No breakers were found. Major mines in the Globe Mint district shut down due to union activity, with only few workers remaining on site. At Dominion property in Olohe, few workers stay. pickets surround the site and block all access, with a 580 strong crowd guarding the road gate and hospital supplies blocked.
Otto Crossinin, arriving from Yuma Arizona without papers, was detained in Paso to allow U S officers to check his status as an alleged alien enemy and possible slacker. Dr Strohl, fined $100 for insulting remarks about the President and troops, released on habeas corpus proceedings. both men said to be Germans.
Fires erupt as hundreds cross the Eads bridge from St. Louis into East St. Louis halting streetcar traffic and trapping residents. Flames and smoke loom over the river as townspeople watch in awe and lines of communication are cut by the blaze.
Belgians’ wartime gratitude reached Chicago as Baron Moncheur met the reception committee. He praised the U S for aiding Belgium and said salvation lies with the United States as Belgian and American forces fight side by side. A luncheon and a bank event with Mayor Thompson closed the day.
