Dallas July 1 maintenance of regular service and public interest protection are expected by Texas railroad officials after the nationwide strike began. Special guards have been hired by most lines to protect property as the walkout by shopmen takes effect.
Rail workers in multiple lines including Santa Fe Fort Worth and Denver and Rock Island walked out in a nationwide shop crafts strike. Officials said passenger service would be last affected and freight would continue as long as possible while railroads observed a watchful waiting policy.
William Sacks, local banker and oil operator, opened his campaign for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate in St Louis. He attacked Senator Seldon P. Spencer as a national joke and a party boss, pledging to fight for his own convictions and party policies. He criticized Spencer over the attorney generalship and the Newberry election contest.
Complete railway shopmen strike reported in Oklahoma with over 3,000 workers out. Shawnee saw 750 Rock Island shops employees and 150 Santa Fe workers join in. Muskogee shops of several lines including Frisco and Midland Valley also saw about 500 quit, with near equal numbers walking out at Missouri, Kansas and Texas, Rock Island, and Frisco depots.
Ten hours into the railway shopmen strike, more than 15,000 workers quit in the district with Kansas City leading at 5,000, followed by Springfield Missouri 3,500, Topeka Kansas 2,500, Parsons Kansas 2,000, Sedalia Missouri 1,750, and St. Joseph Missouri 1,000. Governor Allen announced strict enforcement of the state anti picketing law after a judge and attorney general conference, as mass meetings continued with no disorders reported.
Special to The News reports 18 year old John Anderson son of J C Anderson was killed by lightning while tending stock during a shower near Tulia. His body was found in a hog pen on the family farm about 20 miles east of Tulsa, near the spot where John Renfro died last month. Funeral services are planned for Sunday afternoon at Milo.
Reports indicate the walkout at the Fort Worth and Denver shops in Childress is nearly total with four to five hundred men leaving at about 10 a m local time.
Corpus Christi July 1 About fifty men went on strike here participating in a local labor action. The protest started this morning and involved workers from several nearby industries. Officials suggested negotiations would follow as the work stoppage continued through the day.
In Kingsville Texas on July 1 roughly six hundred employees of the Gulf Coast Line shops walked off the job amid unspecified labor action. The mass walkout affected shop operations and indicated mounting labor tensions in the region.
Union leaders say 275 workers at ENNIS Texas went out in a strike while only four men refused to obey the order. The report notes the scale of labor action and the small minority who stayed at work.
At St Joseph Missouri July 1 425 workers at Chicago Burlington and Quincy shops walked out along with 365 men at St Joseph and Grand Island shops. The strike is described as general for the area with workers joining in across facilities.
Practically all union crafts' workers left their jobs at 10 o'clock this morning across the Katy system, halting operations at multiple points. The walkout follows ongoing grievances and labor actions, affecting trains and service nationwide.
From Gleiwitz AP reports 15 killed and 25 wounded in a clash between German civilians and a detachment of French troops this morning. A state of siege is proclaimed with French armored cars patrolling streets and rifle fire continuing tonight.
Mount Holly New Jersey July 1 Associated Press A sergeant Gustave Reisig 45 won a $33,000 oil royalty payout from a worthless Oklahoma land deed gained in a dice game five years ago Reisig now receives a continuous 9e on every barrel of oil produced from the property as he proceeds home to Springfield Ohio The fortune arose after Reisig wagered a worthless deed against a rival who had already accepted the bet in a craps game and Reisig later secured financial work for an oil probe of the property.
A wartime style coal strike conference convened by President Harding adjourned in a double deadlock. The bituminous group, larger in size, left after a contentious session while the anthracite contingent scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday. Secretaries Hoover and Davis intervened to block a vote on resuming work through district wage talks between operators and the union. The move faced strong opposition from miners’ leaders including President Lewis and William Green.
Senator Norris Republican Nebraska assailed the Senate for backing a House amendment delaying Work on the Muscle Shoals data until October 1. He warned the move would postpone 1,000 plus workers, waste millions, and prolong ferriVer trust domination over Alabama farmers and South labor.

Dublin reports a quiet night shattered by sniping as citizens return to streets. Eamon de Valera and Cathal Brugh are believed directing operations from the Gresham Hotel. Casualties mount with 15 killed and 40 wounded on Wednesday, 14 killed and 29 wounded on Thursday, 13 killed and 17 wounded on Friday. Insurgents hold Bray coast guard station and police barracks then evacuate and burn them.
Washington July 1 The Senate approved duties of 50 cents per bushel on wheat and 70 per hundred pounds on flour. The wheat rate passed 38 to 12 with Republicans voting solidly for it and two Democrats joining Jones of New Mexico and Kendricks of Wyoming. no record vote on flour was forced by Democrats.
Mrs Fannie Goldstein 47 was shot and killed during a store robbery in Beaumont Texas at 10 tonight. The robber took about 75 dollars after drawing a pistol and ordering her to raise her hands. The store lies in a residential area with many people nearby as police and county officials search for the suspect.
Washington July 1 President Harding signed about twenty bills passed by Congress before adjournment. The act includes the annual naval appropriation bills and the deficiency appropriation measure, among others.
Sedalia Missouri July 1 effective today the Missouri Kansas and Texas railroad placed all section bands and bridge and building men on a 10 hour day. The men have been working on a 8 hour day and this action marks a shift toward longer work hours statewide with talks on wage adjustments pending.
Union leaders and sneakers urged a peaceful walkout by the six shopcrafts at meetings Friday night and Saturday afternoon with about 50 men present in O C F hall. Speakers including Rev Jonathan Perkins Judge Caldwell Mr Croft and Less Whitaker endorsed amity and unity while an 11 member executive committee representing three from each craft was chosen to run the local strike along with additional sub committees.
Washington July 1 Brig General Lord becomes head of the budget bureau after the resignation of Brig General Dawes, first director. Dawes returns to Chicago banking. Lord moves from chief finance officer of the army to the new post.
Dallas July 1 fifty special policemen will be enrolled to guard railroad property during the shopmen strike. The move, announced tonight by Assistant Police Chief Bert Dellinger, is a precautionary measure not due to any expected outbreak. The extra patrolmen will be on duty to deter trouble and ensure security.
Knoxville dispatch: Klan groups in Tennessee North and South Carolina Texas Maryland and several other states demand Ed ward Y Clark be banished from office to halt national organizational support by state dom ains. A resolution sent to imperial council allegedly draws a denial from Imperial Wizard Simmons. The Chattanooga klan is said to have originated the move read at a meeting with other klans present and described as shaking the order’s foundations.

Railway executives expect minimal disruption as Labor Board settlement talks proceed and workers remain on the job or are replaced. Beards and Chicago show limited disturbances while several rail lines report near normal operations.
Nine persons were seriously injured and several others sustained minor bruises when Missouri Pacific train No 12 eastbound struck a stretch of wet track near Fowler Colorado. The wreck overturned two cars while a Pullman remained upright. Track on both sides was washed out blocking relief efforts.

Four young men faced a patrolman on July 9 after confusing July 1 with July 4. They had lit firecrackers and waved patriotic signs, thinking the Fourth of July was near. Townes arrested them and scheduled action by the patrol.
