In Philadelphia on July 1 Associated Press reports Wim Sulzer of New York is named defendant in a breach of promise suit. Plaintiff is Miss Mignon Hopkins about thirty five, formerly of Brooklyn, now employed in a department store in the city.
Albany July 1 Associated Press reports Governor Sulzer says the Hopkins suit is nothing, blaming enemies for the story. He describes the matter as merely another fabrication and offers no further comment.
The Jones Works excise law takes effect in Washington and will arrest drunkenness with misdemeanor charges. Convictions carry fines of 10 to 100 dollars or 5 to 30 days in jail. Officials expect a wave of public trials and immediate enforcement in the capital.
