Maudie Lawson girlfriend of Arthur Gooch faces an armed robbery charge in Holdenville Oklahoma tied to a two year old holdup. Lawson and Gooch once escaped from Holdenville jail while awaiting trial for the Paris Texas officers kidnapping.
Special to the News Plainview June 29 Funeral services were held today at Kress for Billy Joe Beck eight year old son of Mr and Mrs M P Beck of Brownfield who died of drowning yesterday The boy became separated from his family and was found by an older sister in the shallow water of the pool after the search began The Beck family moved to Brownfield a week ago after residing in Plainview for two years.
Monte Bridges testified claiming self defense in the slaying of hotel owner Fred English over a bill dispute. He said English cornered him and he fired to prevent an expected gun attack as the jury deliberates after hourlong defense argument.
Two half starved Texas fugitives, Luke Trammel and Forrest Gibson, escapees from a Texas prison farm who killed a guard, eluded armed police in a cross border chase through Oklahoma toward Mangum. They seized a car from R L Whittiker and fled as Clovis officers spread along highways from Texas into New Mexico after word of a bank hold up at Friona.

Luther Montfort 75, longtime Santa Fe conductor, died at Santa Fe Hospital in Clovis New Mexico after four months with gangrene. He led the first Lubbock to Sweetwater passenger train in 1910 and once walked five miles through snow to aid his passengers. Funeral rites planned from Central Presbyterian Church in Amarillo.
Chicago police captain says investigation into Florence Thompson Castle death continues and notes a lead involving her seven year old son Jimmy. He says the child weighing about 50 pounds could have delivered the fatal blow and that information cannot be disclosed yet. The inquest was extended to July 9.

Justice Jennings Bailey of the District of Columbia Supreme Court ruled in an oral opinion that the Railroad Retirement Board can pay pensions to railroad workers despite a prior ruling that the tax to finance those pensions was unconstitutional.
Agricultural economists in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas predict a wheat yield above last season yet below the five year average. Kansas harvests about 19 million acres at an estimated yield of 160 bushels per acre, valuing the 1936 crop at roughly 117 million dollars.
