Oil well near Carlsbad flows after nitro shot
Special to The News in Carlsbad reports the Illinois Producers No. 3 eighteen miles southeast of town discharged 130 quarts of nitro glycerin causing oil to flow over the derrick for six to seven minutes. The 1900 foot deep eight inch hole produced an estimated thousand barrels per day as gas and oil rose above the derrick. Tex Thornton of U S Torpedo Co Amarillo oversaw the shot.

Train Crash Kills Six and Hurts Seventeen Near Chicago
