Detroit reports that maintenance of way forces nationwide will stay at work as talks proceed in Chicago to July 3. Railway executives say trains will run despite a looming strike, while shop craft workers prepare to strike at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
Cork reports intense Irregular forces activity as they prepare for an imminent siege by gathering provisions and motor cars. A Dublin dispatch notes the Four Courts Y Wadding was demolished by an explosion, leaving only the central wall and dome. The involvement of Eamon de Valera in fighting remains uncertain, with claims about his active service viewed as possibly intended to bolster republican resolve.
Mrs. Jennie Walker, 25, was seriously hurt when an explosion wrecked Walke Connaghton’s photographic studio in Dallas. Chemicals ignited, flames scorched her face and body. Cause undetermined. damage limited to the studio.
Washington reports say American oil workers in the Tampico region were freed by bandits at Pecora camp of the Lacorona Company. Consul Shaw in Tampico notes the 85 captives are no longer held and notes uncertainty whether captors were paid off or driven away. Congress considers a joint inquiry into bandit depredations amid questions over Obregon government order.

In a House speech chairman Fordney displayed a soft silk gown from Belgium to illustrate that home manufacturers struggle against foreign dealers under low tariffs. The gown, bought for $13.40, jumped to $21.69 on landing and then to $60 in New York sale. Laughter erupted as he argued for protection.
B F Harper will be sworn in as deputy U S marshal to succeed L J Doc Bolton, who is deceased. Sam B Motlow will administer the oath. Harper, appointed by U S Marshal James Baggett, has lived in Amarillo three years and was once sheriff of Motley County and worked in Midland County.
Union machinists carmen boiler makers sheet metal workers electricians and blacksmiths on six rail unions plan to walk out at 1000 hours in Amarillo. About 540 workers on Santa Fe Port Worth and Denver and Rock Island lines are involved with roughly 2000 Panhandle workers affected by the nationwide strike orders.
The City Light and Water Co. will spend 200000 to double the plant capacity. New York financiers provided the loan, with Guy W. Fuller announcing the plan. The company will acquire half of the block at First and Tyler to expand, add a new turbine imported within five to six months, and erect a brick boiler building and spray pond to serve a growing population.
Publisher J. Wendler of the Florida Post, based at Winter Park near Orlando, was abducted from his home by masked men who flogged him, tarred and feathered him, and ordered him to leave town within a week tonight.

Four killed when a Rock Island passenger train struck a motor car at a crossing eight miles north of Chickasha Oklahoma. Victims from Dallas Texas include Vivian M Porter 26 Mrs Vivian M Porter 22 Lina Speer 18 and Thomas Speer 15. Porter and bride had wed in Oklahoma City June 21 and were visiting relatives.
Washington June 30 freight rates across the United States on nearly all commodities will be cut by ten percent starting tomorrow. New schedules reflecting the change have been issued after the deciding ruling, with agricultural goods exempt from the cut. Rail statisticians estimate the move will lower the annual national freight bill by about 350 million dollars.
Washington June 30 President Harding signed the army appropriation bill carrying about 281 million dollars. The measure provides for an enlisted force of 125000 and an officer corps of 12000, funding set on the eve of the new fiscal year.
Two men alleged to have ridden a Santa Fe freight without authority are jailed in Lubbock after the killing of Jerry R. Redden, brakeman, and the wounding of Conductor J. Vaughn near Roundup water tank. Vaughn is hospitalized. the suspects were captured by a section foreman and handed to officers.
Gas in W. H. Gordon's water well two miles west of Hoover Texas comes in spurts. It roars loudly one day then quiets as the well pumps water. Gas was first discovered Sunday when it blew in with a roar heard for miles. The gas ceased then returned yesterday, leaving the well alternately gassy and watery.
Beech Bottom Power Plant reports a man wounded in a clash said to involve union and non union miners at a Beech Bottom mine around 145 this morning. A sharp confrontation described with searchlights over the hillsides as investigators respond.
Chicago June 30 Federal intervention by the United States Railroad Labor Board failed to halt a strike of 400000 railway shopmen set for tomorrow morning. Shopcrafts head B M Jewell and six international union leaders refused to appear for official inquiry. The board announced no further attempt to stall the walkout. Meanwhile maintenance of way workers delayed action after board discussion. President Grable reported a large pro strike vote while noting pay cuts of 60 million dollars and eight hour-day reforms. Walter E. Taylor an architect of Lubbock claims a world turkey hunting writing record. He replied to Donald Mayfield of Baird Texas who previously penned long postcard letter. Taylor produced 68 lines averaging 23 words for 1504 words and outdid Mayfield with clear readable script at age 63.
The Senate pushes tariff votes while the House closes for vacation. It approved 38 amendments to agricultural and feed schedules, with notable gains for a 20 cent per bushel corn duty, lifting several rates above the House figures. Other items set at higher or lower per 100 pounds and ad valorem rates across cereals and breakfast foods.
In Lubbock and Hockley counties three men are held on cattle stealing charges tied to rustling across Northwest Texas. The thefts span several months with at least two head taken from major ranches including the F. I. F. D. ranch owned by Ca i Littlefield. Suspects, prominent local citizens, waived relit trial and will be tried in Hockley County. jurors are available, and county offices rely on ranch owners for citizenship.
