Federal Security Administrator Oscar Ewing announced a surplus tool recovery program to reclaim World War II machine tools held by educational institutions. He said government agencies would negotiate to purchase equipment as schools retain title after a three year use period, with Amarillo High School potentially affected. The district had not been asked to surrender tools yet.
Field manager Walter Stagg says one unit at the Pantex AEC plant has been completed and production is underway. About 200 Shamrock Oil & Gas workers who quit over a firing at the McKee Plant have begun applying for reemployment as the company hires replacements. union reps say some 75 applications were received and the firm expects more, while discussions about severance or seniority have not been settled.
Amarillo will not be designated a defense blood bank soon as nationwide processing is overloaded. National Red Cross officials said July is the earliest a need may arise, with plans stalled by distance from processing centers and a swollen system after 1951 disasters. The meeting in Amarillo also outlined a 1952 budget of 88 million dollars with 55 thousand dollars earmarked for Potter County and 37 thousand kept locally.
In Dallas on January 30 a four year old boy Billy Yates had a large brain clot removed in a major operation. Doctors hope to report recovery by Saturday. The boy was beaten unconscious on Christmas Eve in Vernon and his mother Mrs Robert Dale Simpson 23 testified at trial she she moved him from bed and struck him with a wooden fork. she received a ten year sentence.
