Tot Burned In Cafe Blaze In Amarillo
An 18 month old boy, Robert Lee Thrasher Jr., suffered first and second degree burns when gasoline ignited near a gas heater at Tia Juana Cafe 314 East Fourth. Fire spread quickly, forcing firefighters to hose down the scene as the blaze extended to Amarillo Meat Co next door. The cafe owner, the boy’s uncle, Leroy Thrasher, and the boy’s parents were present. the family said the flames began after the child spilled gasoline on his trousers. The boy received emergency treatment at Northwest Texas Hospital and was later released home. The fire was reported around 8 pm and no outer walls were damaged. The building is owned by Mrs. Josephine Murphy and H. L. Murphy’s estate. A prior burn victim, Jack Melton, was injured Tuesday at 3222 West Sixth and remained hospitalized.
