In Springfield Missouri a gunman barricaded himself at Hovey Avenue, killing Nolman Franklin and Joe Hargand and possibly other family members as police fired on the house. Three ambulance workers were shot. the man remains barricaded as officers bombard the residence. In Miami Oklahoma three miners Blunk, McClain, and Emmett Church died when a 300 ton rock collapsed at the Velie Lion lead mine. three rescuers were injured by a second fall.

S D Mellroy president of the Dixon Creek company said the Dixon Creek No 2 well has been producing more than 1400 barrels of oil per day for several days. The well is flowing naturally and has not yet been drilled in, with production increasing from about 600 barrels after December 19.
Mrs M D Oliver-Earle and Ware Brothers announce building plans for a new skyscraper at the corner of Polk and Sixth Streets, signaling a major urban development project. The proposed tower aims to transform the downtown skyline with modern offices and retail space, reflecting a growing commercial district.
Promoters Mrs M J Oliver Eakle Charley and Dick Ware announce a $600000 ten story office block at Sixth and Polk in Amarillo to be built at once. Austin January 30 With the defense refuting the states charge the Hoffman Construction company over billed the highway department for asphalt used in patching the second week of the Hoffman trial ended at noon today Indications are another week will pass before the jury decides or not venue of the states 421000 road suit rests in Travis or Eastland county Several witnesses remain to testify for the defense including G Hoffman vice president and general manager The defense will present rebuttal witnesses and the state will seek additional argument time
The cattle embargo by Oklahoma and Arkansas on South Texas cattle has been raised. Cattle destined for northern markets for immediate slaughter were affected. After talks between Arkansas state veterinarian Dr J H Bux and Texas officials, the embargo was removed with the condition that cattle from tick territories be dipped in a specified arsenic solution and shipped within 72 hours.
Plans for a new arctic flight were disclosed, President Coolidge delivered his semiannual budget address, Secretary Hoover outlined a system of national waterways, Judge Wallace McCamant explained his remarks about Theodore Roosevelt. Improvements in Hawaiian harbors were recommended by the war department, Secretary Jardine faced an assault on his agricultural relief stand in the House, and a Senate fight against repeal of inheritance and gift taxes opened.
Rev. R. F. Jenkins aged 73, longtime pastor of First Baptist Church Amarillo from 1907 to 1915, died at his home 1713 Tyler Street after a prolonged illness. Funeral at First Baptist Amarillo, with pastors Dr. G. L. Yates and Rev. R. C. Pender officiating, then burial at Daingerfield. Jenkins was born May 1, 1852 in Dallas Georgia, married Martha Mitchell in 1872, and served pulpits in Daingerfield, Whitewright, Greenville, Amarillo, Roswell, Henrietta and Plainview, building several large churches.
Waco salesman T. B. zine Sot, based in Waco, was robbed of 12.50 in small change a watch and chain and a ring by two armed masked men on the Carlsbad pike north of San Angelo. They jumped on his car as it slowed for a ride and forced him to drive beyond traffic.
Distressed submarine T-8 was reported safe after anchoring off the Florida coast near the site of its disablement. Trouble developed in its fuel line causing fuel exhaustion while at sea, but the vessel was secured and confirmed safe.
Dallas dispatch reports James E. Ferguson former Texas governor and husband of Miriam A. Ferguson will run in the July Democratic primary. Ben Flood of Dallas may manage his campaign but has not decided. Ferguson, impeached and removed in 1917, has been cleared by a recent amnesty bill restoring his civil rights. The Fergusons have not publicly announced plans.
Pasadena officials voted $100000 to aid needy victims of the New Year grandstand collapse at the Roses Tournament. An earlier $10000 had been set aside by the city council. The accident injured over 250 people and caused nine deaths. Though the collapsing grandstand was privately operated, the city accepted moral responsibility.

Barbara La Marr motion picture actress died at her Altadena home this afternoon from complications of a nervous breakdown that began last July in New York.
