One Dead in Friona Fire Near Scott Weir Furniture

An itinerant farm worker is believed burned to death when a fire destroyed the Scott Weir furniture store in Friona. Firemen found a charred body among the debris. Deputy Sheriff J. W. Roberts identified the likely victim as Bob Price, who slept in the secondhand furniture building.

Tragic church oyster roast fire claims ten lives near Baltimore

Fire and panic erupted at a St. Rose of Lima event south of Baltimore killing at least ten people and injuring about 227 amid a crowd of roughly 1 000. The blaze started in the kitchen around 5 15 p m and food service tickets numbered 1 200. Fire officials feared more bodies as searches continued among ruined chairs and rubble in the Quonset roofed brick hall.
