Nine company executives and 20 unions adjourned after a 2 1/2 hour session with no deal. A follow up meeting is set for tomorrow at 10 AM. Railroad presidents rejected four labor proposals for wage cuts ranging from 6 1/2 to 6 1/2 percent with differing repayment and unemployment relief terms.
The cold wave moving from Western Canada drives temperatures to five below in parts of Nebraska and Montana and approaches zero in Wyoming Colorado the Dakotas and surrounding areas. Red Cross relief efforts continue as livestock suffer in Nebraska amid heavy snow and isolation.
Special to The News John Harth a pioneer settler died instantly at his farm 25 miles southeast of Portales New Mexico when a windstorm struck from the northwest. He was at a thresher when the carrying frame toppled and crushed him.

A. W. Root, a resident of El Blanco tourist camp, was conscious for the first time since Wednesday night and resting easily but in critical condition after a traffic accident at Northwest Texas Hospital. Mrs. Sarah Ferguson of 316 Belleview Street remains in danger with a compound fracture of the thigh from the same incident.
The condition of J S Wynne pioneer banker and cattleman of Pampa, who underwent a major operation Thursday at a Pampa hospital, was reported improved. Mr Wynne's daughter Mrs J R Crawford and children of Amarillo are at his bedside.
Jack Mealey 18 of Tulsa University died when his car collided with a machine driven by a Black man near Sapulpa Oklahoma. His companion Ed Davis was injured. Mealey is son of Sol Mealey of Commercial Drilling Company Tulsa.
United Press reports Architecture estimates over three billion dollars of construction will be started nationwide this year. In Warren Ohio, guards at Warren Toll & Forge Co. anticipate over 400 workers returning soon to fulfill months of orders tied to receivership litigation. In Kearny New Jersey, Federal Ship Building Dry Docks Co. secured contracts exceeding one million dollars to refurbish six Mpa of the American Diamonds.
Eight members of the Martin Sitar family were found stabbed to death in their beds. Two others were critically wounded. Flames issuing from the home near Elma drew attention as John Sitar discovered the tragedy.
