Senators split over Eisenhower Formosa policy but the big majority back a strong stance against Red China. The Seventh Fleet and Sabrejets promise a potent display, with a historical parallel to a Greek coast air show that pressured concessions.
Travel writer Stan Delaplane jokes that Texas should advertise its men as the main tourist draw. He notes Texans lack tourist propaganda and many men are in Texas making millions. He contrasts cow and oil millionaires and ends with a sheep joke about a Rolls Royce partition to keep sheep in the back seat.

Harold Key an 18 year old filing station attendant died after being struck by a car while delivering gasoline to four stalled vehicles. The incident occurred Wednesday and the driver was not arrested.
Forty fishermen aboard two British trawlers near Iceland are listed as lost after a deadly black frost storm. Eight Icelandic sailors are believed dead as their trawler Egill Rauch grounded and broke up in NW Icelandic waters. Search planes from Keflavik joined the hunt for the missing crews.
Randy Gene Caskey, ten months old, returns home with his mother Mrs Winona Caskey of 404 North Lincoln after a Denver hospital visit for a bad cold. The family traveled with Sgt C G Caskey and relatives. FBI involvement was part of the return.
Amarillo police charged 18 year old Donald Ellis with car theft after confessing to stealing a car parked near Amarillo High School. Ellis appeared in 47th District Court where Peace Justice Bonita Potter set a $2000 bond. He claimed he took the car Wednesday night from the 1400 block of West 10th and drove toward the east.
Prosecutor witness M. S.gt Harvey N Bailey testified Nugent volunteered to write a propaganda article to avert execution of 63 American prisoners in North Korea. Bailey, a fellow prisoner at Fort Hood, said Nugent acted as ranking officer and insisted the group produce the piece within 10 minutes or be shot.
About 500 donors and leaders attended the Amarillo YMCA annual dinner in the new gym built in 1954. Texas Attorney General John Ben Shepperd delivered the keynote, with W. B. Todd of Fort Worth presiding as vice president of the National Council of YMCA. Officers installed included J. Harold Dunn as president and C. J. Humphrey Troy F. Jones as vice presidents, Virgil P. Patterson as treasurer, and Zed Dashier Jr. as secretary.
President Eisenhower stated Formosa policy is defensive and he alone will decide any strike on the Chinese mainland to protect Chiang Kai shek. Senate foes pressed to narrow the resolution while supporters urged swift action, amid a White House briefing with military leaders. The president stressed forces are for defense and not for preemptive war unless self defense or direct Formosa defense is involved.
State Senator Grady Hazlewood introduced a bill to establish the office of criminal district attorney in Randall County and abolish the county attorney post. The move follows a Randall County commissioners court resolution and aims to streamline operations amid growing court business in Amarillo Canyon.
Amarillo Barbers Local No. 565 votes a five day week official and raises haircut prices from 1.00 to 1.25 effective February 21. Perry B. Ford secretary reports the decision and new officers R A Hays Cecil Brown E W Johnson and W H Holmes were installed by John D. Robinson of the Journeyman Barbers union affiliated with the AF of L.
The Panhandle District Dental Society begins its 27th annual meeting with registration at 9 a.m. at the Herring Hotel. Dr. John C Wyatt of Amarillo chairs the opening session at 10 a.m. Dr. C. M. Taylor of Houston attends as Texas Dental Society president. Dr. Miles R. Markley of Denver is principal speaker for the two day event. A Dutch luncheon in the XIT Room and a luncheon plus style show in the Amarillo Club cater to dental auxiliaries. Officers may be elected at 4:30 p.m. and a dinner dance closes the day. Markley speaks again tomorrow morning with adjournment at noon.
More than 650 volunteers will canvass 23 sections of the city at 7 p.m. to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Residents are asked to leave porchlights on during the hour-long event as KLYN and KGNC broadcast special programs. Cochairs are Mrs. Bob Boston and Mrs. Alma Thomas. Tom Dean notes the march concludes the annual drive.
Weather notes for yesterday show wind 15 mph, visibility clear. Ample sun marked the 23rd of 27 days in Amarillo for 1955, with conditions varying from cloudy to partly cloudy.
