A service road along the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu buckled as Malibu Creek rose. A three bedroom two bath house in Tujunga slid into a canyon early Sunday morning, its owners escaping five minutes before the collapse.

Paris AP reports the fourth phase of Vietnam peace talks, with both sides stubbornly divided on core settlement issues. U S and South Vietnamese delegates prepare for Thursday’s full session with hopes directed to possible secret talks outside the formal meetings.
Allied ground forces, supported by tanks and helicopters, battled Viet Cong units near Saigon and 40 miles northwest, with 127 enemy killed and nine U.S. dead. A large clash 20 miles south of Saigon involved about 200 Viet Cong from the 9th Division, encircled by 1,000 infantry and armor. the battle produced the 1,000th U.S. helicopter loss.
35 members of the 238th Aviation Company arrived with 11 helicopters for a day of events in Happy. Warrant Officer Jerry Powell arranged adoption of Happy as the unit’s home. The mayor welcomed Maj. David Doss and the unit. local crowd hosted breakfast, church services, and a noon luncheon at Happy High School. Linda Lewis performed at the luncheon. Sgt Norman Fildes’s birthday was noted by local women.

Amarillo dealer William Wayne Dalton reports he was kidnapped at gunpoint Sunday by two men and a woman, driven 46 miles south of Canyon and robbed of 2500 to 3000 dollars while negotiating a car sale. Dalton identified a Wichita address for the suspect and described the ordeal to city police.
Voters in Potter County must register by midnight Friday with the tax assessor-collector to vote in 1969. Amarillo's five man City Commission and mayoral seat face races on April 1 though no county wide elections are scheduled. L O'Brien Thompson announced candidacy for mayor as the first filer.
Two Amarillo men suffered injuries in separate Sunday accidents at the Duniven Lake area near 3900 Olsen. Marvin Carr, 19, was thrown from a dune buggy when it spun and wheelR pass over his legs. he later had leg surgery and was in fair condition. Dan C. Martin, 26, had a broken ankle after a motorcycle accident when the bike fell onto him while climbing an embankment. he was treated and released from Northwest Texas Hospital.
Victor Gray headmaster of Milnthorpe High School in Westmorland planned to abolish caning but students voted to retain corporal punishment. Head girl Marilyn Gould, 15, argued the cane provides an effective deterrent and occasional sharp lesson.
