155 Flee Fire In Big Mine
A crew of 155 men reached safety tonight after being trapped 167 feet underground by a fire in the Willow Grove mine. Mine recovery boss Lawrence Higgins said the group escaped in minutes via a rapid elevator, with no casualties reported by Steve Brannon. Fire broke out about 5 30 in a tunnel feeding air. it was controlled shortly before 7 30 as firefighters pumped water into the mine.
