State Police report a one-armed lumberman killed four and wounded two at an isolated Montrose farm after being ordered off the property. Walter McCray 35 killed his wife Anna Isner McCray 25 and McManigle 68 plus Dora Hammons McManigle 45, then shot himself. Troy Sneed 18 was wounded in the hip and Louella Sneed 22 a hand wound. she hid all night and alerted neighbors. The assailant fired through a window and later on the porch before dying by suicide.

Kidnapers Seize Briton in Jerusalem Heavily Guarded Search
In Jerusalem on January 26 a five member kidnap gang abducted H. Collins a 48 year old former British Army major and director of the British Bank in Palestine. Collins was struck on the temple and wrist after being chloroformed. A woman companion escaped unharmed police say the abduction was by Irgun Zvai Leumi in apparent retaliation for a death sentence. British troops surrounded the cemetery with armor and flares as they hunted through ancient catacombs and streets nearby.

Gambling Bust Ends Night for 99 Patrons on Long Island
In Mineola Nassau County District Attorney James N Gehrig led a raid on a Glen Cove gambling house where 99 patrons were charged with gambling. They received suspended five day sentences after pleading guilty while operators were released on $500 bail for a January 30 trial. The raid followed eight days of operation and six days of surveillance with cash over $10 000 found at the scene.
