A noted industrial figure famed for chewing gum innovations passes away at his Phoenix residence. The obituary notes his diverse interests in baseball mining movies railroads and ranching alongside his public contributions to the confectionery industry.
Chicago merchant and sportsman William Wrigley Jr died in Phoenix at 70 after long indigestion led to paralysis. He spent hundreds of millions on advertising for his gum and other ventures including baseball, coal, transport, films, ranching, and hotels. He owned the Cubs since 1924 and poured over 6 million into the team, never winning a World Series pennant.
About 200 Chinese irregulars were killed and many more wounded in a clash Sunday with Japanese troops northwest of Tahushan in Manchuria. Airplane bombs caused most casualties. The Japanese advancing toward Jehol Province reported three killed and five wounded.
Fair and continued cold Wednesday for Amarillo and West Texas respectively. Forecast also calls for fair conditions in New Mexico on Wednesday. Hourly observations from yesterday show temperatures rising from morning lows to mid and late day highs with max 87 and min around 54 in Amarillo area.

Auto production across the United States and Canada in February is projected near 200 thousand units, up 33 percent from January, per Daily Investment News.
Kameron Burgess admitted a professional church joiner took $52 from the First Christian Church safe last fall. In 47th district court Judge Henry Bishop gave a two year sentence after Burgess waived extradition from Oklahoma City and confessed. Burgess claimed he had joined several churches as part of the deception. A jury is summoned Thursday for the first case in the new courtroom.

A Galveston Coast Guard boat began the day by searching Morgan's Point for the body of an unidentified man who was reported drowned. The incident occurred near Morgan's Point, but no identity had been confirmed.

Secretary Wilbur criticized the House appropriations committee for cutting the interior department appropriation bill below the survival figure. He planned to voice objections before Congress, likely when the bill goes to the Senate. He called the committee action a warning against overreach and warned of future negotiations.
