Crash kills civilian pilot in top secret SR71 near Mosquero NM
Eastern New Mexico report: at about 4 15 p m Tuesday a top secret SR71 super spy plane caught fire in midair and pancaked onto a high plateau in Harding County New Mexico. One civilian pilot James T Sawyer of Lancaster California died and Bill Weaver 37 of Northridge California was injured. Air Force and civilian investigators from Amarillo Wright Patterson and two California bases rushed to the scene after witnesses heard a loud bang and saw parachutes. The two man crew were enclosed in the aircraft which broke apart and descended trailing white smoke.

Plane Searchers To Await Spring
CHAMONIX FRANCE AP officials decided Tuesday night to wait until spring before recovering the remains of Air India crash victims on Mont Blanc. Thick clouds and howling gales blocked investigators after a jetliner crashed in mist and a snowstorm just below the summit. 117 people died as reconnaissance helicopters could not land. Champion Steers Sold at Amarillo Stock Show Sale
The grand champion Hereford steer weighing 945 pounds shown by Bill Cole of Pampa sold for 2.25 per pound at the Gouldy Arena auction. The reserve grand champion, 1,050 pounds, shown by Margaret Minks of Hereford, went for 1 per pound. Both were bought by the Amarillo Championship Club. 77 steers sold with final bid 42 cents per pound for the last animal.

Italian motorist rams St. Peter's Basilica stairs
