Two unmasked men robbed the Bank of Vici of 2000 dollars shortly before closing. They forced cashier G W Trimble to open the door shade and used assistant cashier Raymond Windolph as a hostage during the escape, releasing him three miles from town. Windolph’s wife and daughter were present in the bank.
In Panhandle, Jan. 25, the jury weighing the death of W. E. Wright by W. L. Sickles reported inability to agree on a verdict after a lengthy trial. District Attorney McConnell led the rebuttal. defense cited self defense as the basis for acquittal.
Governor James V. Allred wins House support for a state planning board and a sweep of pro administration bills. He urges a formal probe into the permanent school fund amid concerns of investments in refunding bonds and possible mismanagement. Dalhart Jan 25 Robert Thomas 20 was killed when the car he rode in overturned after a flat tire. Two girls and two other men were injured. Funeral services for Thomas will be at 2 pm Saturday with burial in Dalhart cemetery.
In Clayton New Mexico on January 25 the Old Western Dance revival began at the American Legion Home. A bewhiskered caller shouted salute your partners as a fiddle band played a retro break-down. Hundreds filled the meat-slick floor while men in beard and boots escorted ladies in era garb.
The three night annual celebration starts tonight with callers guiding left turns and partner promenades. For 16 years the event has drawn old timers and tenderfeet from five states to Clayton, recreating the bustle of 40 years past.

The House approved authority for the Treasury to issue nine billion dollars in new bonds to finance the four point eight eight billion work relief and other recovery programs. The measure increases borrowing power to about forty five billion and sets bonds to five and ten year terms at up to three percent interest.
Athens Texas January twenty five suspects Jack Legedie and James Watkins waived examining trial and remain held without bond on robbery and conspiracy charges tied to an attempted bank stand holdup at Eustace Wednesday night. Mrs Watkins released. Legedie shot during the incident and reported recovering. he was said to be wanted in Florida.
Red Cross workers cut lanes through ice to reach marooned and suffering victims as North Mississippi Delta floods threaten towns south of Mark. At least 25 lives lost and about 18,000 people isolated or homeless as Coldwater River crest moves southward.
Tyler January 26 Judge Renne Allred Jr brother of Gov James V Allred was reported by physicians tonight as not so satisfactory after pneumonia symptoms. He had rallied earlier and today condition improved to satisfactory. Reports that Renne Allred Sr was ill were denied.
Officials opened formal inquiries into the Mohawk disaster off the New Jersey coast after 33 confirmed dead and 14 missing. Coast Guard and navy units used planes and the blimp K-1 in pursuit of wreckage while investigators seek why the southbound Mohawk and freighter Talisman collided near Sea Girt during calm seas.
Oldham County conducts a rabbit drive led by Dr. O H Loyd with 300 gunners along an eight mile front southwest of Vega. About 10 000 jack rabbits are reported slain along with three coyotes. The drive includes Vega Adrian residents and occurs in two sections this month. Continued on page 9.
