Federal court must handle charges against W. K. Hale after a judge nullifies the previous indictments in the Osage slaying case. The ruling redirects the case to federal venue and updates the procedural landscape for the accused.
In Oklahoma City Judge Contecal sustained a motion to quash an Osage murder indictment but allowed federal jurisdiction if the killing occurred on restricted Indian land. The ruling was hailed as a victory by both sides. The grand jury will reassemble February 12 to draft revised indictments against W. K. Hale and John Ramsey. Hale and Ramsey remain jailed in Guthrie.

Isaac Wolfgang, jailed in Los Angeles for the murder of a police officer who tried to arrest him during a milk bottle theft, had his appeal denied by the Supreme Court.
In Stephenville on January 25 the state rested after two doctors testified bones found in F M Snow’s fireplace were human and connected to the killing of his step son Bernie Comenally. The defense objected to showing the bones to the jury. John S Johnson testified seeing a large fire at the Snow home on November 29, aligning with the state’s claim of burning two bodies.
Governor Ferguson issued a requisition to Oklahoma for the extradition of John Marton charged in Potter County with possessing and transporting liquor. Marton is held in Oklahoma City after a nationwide search and a recent grand jury indictment. his lawyers seek a writ of habeas corpus after he refused to sign a waiver.

The impediment in a school child’s speech was deemed not sufficient ground for exclusion from school by the state official. The Caldwell county incident involved the county board of education.

President Coolidge reduced Mitchell’s court martial sentence to half pay and allowances during a five year suspension.

David J. Marshall admitted strangling Miss Anna May Dietrich after a quarrel about extortion, then dismembered the body in his office. He described moving parts to the city outskirts and returning the next day to dispose of them. Initial police account had claimed the death was by the woman’s own action.
In St. Louis on January 25 the government’s bid to advance the Teapot Dome oil lease appeal for an early hearing was denied without prejudice by the U S circuit court of appeals. It said it would accept another government application if counsel fail to agree by February 10 on advancement.
Washington January 25 The Supreme Court ruled that money lost through theft of unregistered War Savings stamps cannot be recovered in suits against the United States. The decision was announced today in a case brought by Sidney Mandelbaum of Des Moines Iowa.
Judge Henry Bishop charged the Potter district grand jury to identify and indict punch boards, labeling them gambling devices like slot machines. He ordered a thorough investigation as bootleggers were also targeted, while Sheriff Pollard noted slot machines had already vanished and one man jailed for car theft was released. B. L. Higginbotham named foreman. the panel began investigations Monday and will hear civil and criminal dockets this week and next.
President Coolidge approved Colonel William Mitchell’s five year suspension from all rank and duty for violating the ninety sixth Article of War. Forfeiture of pay was reduced to half non flying pay and living allowances. the move followed recommendations by Secretary Davis and military advisers.

Subpoenas also issued for Joe Burkett Fastland. both helped award a $2,000,000 asphalt contract under scrutiny. They resigned earlier at Governor Ferguson's request after the state recovered $600,000 excess road profits from American Road.

Washington Jan 25 The Senate voted 68 to 26 to limit debate on joining the world court signaling a final roll call by tomorrow or Wednesday. The cloture move on the adhesion resolution drew a crowded chamber with Mrs. Woodrow Wilson and Mrs. Swanson present. The tally showed 37 Republicans and 23 Democrats for cloture, while 18 Republicans seven Democrats and Shipstead opposed it.
Centerfield, Native and McIlroy No 2 wells in Hutchinson county pushed Panhandle production past 12 000 barrels with three big wells in one day. Centerfield No 1 estimated at 500 barrels, Native No 1 hit oil at 2935 feet, McIlroy No 2 expected at least 700 barrels daily. More wells nearly ready as pipelines and storage limit output.
J. F. Bradley, 50, manager of the Dallam County Farm near Dalhart, is believed to have committed suicide last night. A shotgun lay at his side, and the top of his head was blown away. He is survived by his wife and seven children.
