The Oklahoma Legislature's lower house defeated ratification of the U S Women's Rights Amendment 5 to 45 and then killed the bill for at least two years by a 50 to 43 do not pass vote. Oklahoma leads 1975 states voting on the amendment, with 16 uncommitted.
Four men died and at least 42 were injured when a bomb exploded at a sportsmen's dining club beside Fraunces Tavern in Wall Street. A caller claimed FALN responsibility, identifying the blast as the work of Puerto Rican nationalists. police found a three page document backing the claim.
Congressman Jack Hightower, in Amarillo for a family visit, says the 94th Congress is not as liberal as predicted and is more consumer oriented. He flags the national debt and Ford plan to raise the debt ceiling 22 percent to 604 billion as major concerns. He opposes raising the ceiling, arguing against balancing fiscal responsibility with higher debt, and favors spending on work programs over unemployment and food stamps.

Homer Salter Jr 23 is in Clay County Jail on four counts of first degree murder after an ee of four victims during a grocery gas station holdup. Police seek a second suspect as investigation continues.
