The Texas State Parks Board reports its first uranium lease application for Palo Duro State Park. Applicants are R W Stalter and E P Gray of Lubbock. The board notes visitors have rented Geiger counters and no policy exists yet on uranium rights.
Directors of Mid-Continent Petroleum Co and Sunray Oil Corp, both Tulsa, OK, approve a merger creating Sunray Mid-Continent Oil Co. Each Mid-Continent share exchanges for three new shares plus preferred stock options. Sunray shares convert on a one for one basis. Stockholder meetings are to be scheduled soon for final approval.
Postmaster General Summerfield asked Congress for postage rate increases to bring in over 332 million dollars annually, plus a 129 million dollar a year salary hike for about 500,000 postal workers. The plan would raise the first class letter rate from three to four cents for the first ounce, with additional ounces at three cents, and would aim to cut the deficit from 300 to 400 million dollars per year. The proposals were sent as bills to Vice President Nixon and House Speaker Rayburn.
