The Panhandle front crossed Borger by 3 PM and stalled near Borger overnight, with Amarillo seeing little change. Borger ranged 41 to 50 degrees, while Amarillo read 57 at 6:30 PM and 65 high today, 25 low last night. Winds eased after the front passes, with light precipitation overall.
Michael M. Kemp of Cactus announced his bid for Congress in the 18th District. A 29 year old Coast Guard veteran, he studied at Amarillo College and Texas Tech, worked as a locomotive fireman to pay tuition, and is employed by Phillips Petroleum in Cactus. His father is a railroad engineer and Kemp has long ties to the Panhandle region.
A Census study shows Western states had the largest growth from 1950 to 1953 while many Southern Northeast and Dakota states declined. Nevada Arizona California New Mexico Colorado Wyoming Utah and Texas posted multi year gains with several other states rising 5 to 7 percent and twelve states losing population.
