The Associated Press reports the Washington talks moved swiftly on the Siberian issue and naval reductions, redefining the four power Pacific treaty and tackling Shantung and minor problems. Delegates forecast a possible finish within a week as the Far Eastern committee heard views from Japan and the United States.
The Dalhart Chamber of Commerce annual dinner at the De Soto Hotel drew over 200 attendees. President C. H. Walker presided as a large group of out of town guests, including Joe L. Pope, W. R. Kaufman and Judge Slayton, were welcomed. An election elected H. B. Thompson and others to the board, and a budget drive began led by Pope. The group outlined aims for a municipal lake, gas fuel, Santa Fe extension, free mail delivery, and closer trade with surrounding districts as two interstate highways cross Dalhart. Pope received thanks for his address and fundraising efforts.
The Senate received the five way adjusted compensation plan as an amendment to the wartime loans re funding measure. Senator Simmons of North Carolina introduced the plan identical to last summer's bonus bill except for the bonus payment provisions. It calls for issuing short term treasury certificates until interest can retire them, then using the debt principal when foreign bonds are issued and sold.
In a letter to House Ways and Means Chairman Fordney, Secretary Mellon rejects extra spending for a soldiers bonus. He argues any bonus must be funded by taxation beyond existing taxes, noting no surplus and possible deficit through 1923. He criticizes using foreign debt or new borrowing to finance the bonus.
Havana Cuba January 24 navy department orders the gunboat 20th of May to proceed at once to Point Messi where the shipping board steamer O Conne is ashore. The steamer Avarista is standing by. The O Conne's condition is not regarded as dangerous.
The Amarillo Daily News promotes a $3000 automobile and prize campaign called Opportunity Week with a 190,000 vote booster for new subscriptions. Only three days remain, with the offer ending Saturday at 9 p.m. and all subs must reach the campaign office by then.
The Colorado-to-Gulf Highway annual convention will be in Amarillo on April 4 and 5. Delegates from many highway towns are expected, with C. H. Walker of Dalhart and B. McMahan in town to discuss plans. Attendees included J. W. Timmons and O. V. Vernon among others.
Texas reports show freezing weather across the state with low temperatures in Denison 20 and Gainesville 22 and widespread ice and sleet. Grayson County pools are frozen. cattle suffer in parts of West Texas while San Angelo expects mild impact. Dallas sees light rain freezing on contact and traffic slowdowns. warmer air forecast for Wednesday and Thursday.
Eugene H. Johnson, telegrapher for years with The Associated Press, died today in St. Louis. A Civil War field telegrapher for General Hooker, he later served at the White House during World War I. Survived by widow, a son and two daughters.

In Waco Texas on January 24 Mrs Bernie Butler McLennan County treasurer announced she would resign next December citing insufficient work in the office.
Checks to cover unsecured and non interest bearing deposits of three state banks that failed in October are being mailed to their depositors by the state banking department. Commissioner Ed Hall announced today in Austin Texas on January 24.
In Nacogdoches Texas on January 24 B Moore a 30 year old Black man was electrocuted while collecting trash. He touched a fallen telephone wire that was live with 2200 volts from an electric light line.
In Austin Texas on January 24 Governor Neff announced he has canceled the conditional pardon previously granted to A J Frazier who was sent to the penitentiary from Wrath County. Neff stated the conduct of Frazier since his release has been unbecoming a good citizen.
By Associated Press Mexia Texas January 21 rain ice and mud have suspended practically all drilling operations in the Mexia field. Electric power and water cut off yesterday when engines failed under what officials termed a hundred percent overload were partly restored today as the cold spell continues to bite the area.
Millie Ann Sutler aged 101 died at her home near Ana Texas on Monday. She was Jackson county's oldest resident and often recalled the great meteor shower of 1833.

National Agricultural conference opened in Washington with President Harding's address as committees met for the first time. Eugene Meyer Jr., W. C. Warren, W. C. Mitchell, and Herbert Myrick spoke at an open session. Wannamaker alleged efforts to destroy the farm bloc and called for scrutiny of the committee process.
Chicago Jan 24 Rejection of all railroad shop rules by the United States Railroad Labor Board which cut nine and one half pay for extra shop work was ordered today by the committee of 100 for six railway shop crafts. They ordered new disputes with managements and, if no agreement, to take them to the Labor Board. The greatest dissatisfaction centered on rule six cutting Sunday and holiday straight time to nine and a half. They seek time and one half and double time for emergency or temporary vacancies, and oppose the board rule allowing medical exams for all applicants.
U S Senator McKellar of Tennessee praised Ford’s offer to supply government properties at Muscle Shoals and ship the contract to Detroit for signature. He said the plan would lower fertilizer costs for farmers and aid national upbuilding. He attacked the Nations Fertilizer Association for spreading propaganda against the Ford proposal.
