The Panhandle oil field attracts large investments with two point five million dollars traded this week. Geologists expect the field, already vast, to extend further with tests in Moore county’s southwestern area.

Funeral set for Malines Thursday with body to be moved tonight and lie in state at the arh episcopal residence. National funeral services to be decided by the council of ministers.
At Syrupville January 93 the Snow murder trial hears testimony on two other slayings. Prosecutors will offer a box of ashes and burned bones alleged to be remains of Mrs. S. A. Old and Mrs. Maggie Snow to support the circumstantial case. Buck Hill Jr testified about a quarrel over cows in a cotton patch and Snow’s burning books and effects tied to Bernie Connally’s death.
William M. Steuart director of the census remained in serious condition after being struck by an automobile truck yesterday. Doctors described his condition as unchanged though there was still cautious hope for recovery.

A blaze at the Hotel La Fayette in Allentown Pennsylvania early today left at least twelve dead and twenty injured with three of the hospitalized in serious condition. Fire officials have not determined a cause and rescuers faced flames as guests cried for help from windows. Spectators watched as occupants were drenched and left in icy clothing. The committee includes Nathan Adams Ed Woodall R K Tarding T J Caldwell and P H Welch. The group aims to increase Texas feed production and improve cotton on fewer acres with about 100 men serving on the board of directors.
International President John L. Lewis has asked Alvin Markle to call a joint conference of miners and operators. He proposed the meeting be open to the press to prevent misunderstandings, with discussions centered on the peace plan reportedly accepted in principle by both sides. The location suggested includes the anthracite regions or New York.

Fifteen Mexican convicts escaped Seigner state prison farm at Sugarland during a blinding snowfall. Snow hid trails making capture hard. Two were captured near the farm later. Escape aided by men prying the back door lock from the dining room. There were 110 men in the room when discovery came 11 minutes after the escape began.
The News-Globe announces a free cooking school from February 1 to 6 at 716 Polk Street in the former Cunningham's Flower Shop space. Mrs. Ida Chitwood will lead the sessions, promising cooking as an art and source of delight for attendees, with afternoons expected to draw many women.

Corpus Christi reports little hope for Mrs. Nathan R. Reid of Sinton after a triple shooting at her father W. L. Barker's home. Barker and Mrs. Reid's husband were killed quickly. Reid is conscious but has not spoken.
Washington Jan. 23 A request that President Coolidge withdraw the nomination of Thomas F Woodlock of New York to the interstate commerce commission is under consideration by some Senate leaders.
Petitions for rehearing have been filed in the United States circuit court of appeals for the cases of Colonel Charles R. Forbes former head of the Veterans Bureau and Colonel John W. Thompson wealthy St Louis contractor convicted and sentenced in hospital contract frauds.
W V Crawford of Waco, president of the Texas Cotton Palace, was elected president of the Texas Association of Valley. Officers include Jelks Castellan as secretary and several vice presidents. A legislative committee to advocate fair-friendly laws was appointed.

Charles K Killingsworth, jailed for a $24,600 Tampa holdup two years ago, escaped between Ocala and Wildwood leaping from a train while in night clothes. He had earlier been arrested in El Paso, Texas, and was being returned to begin serving a five year sentence after bonding out.
In Stephenville Texas on January 23 the state challenged F M Snow's self defense claim in the trial for killing his stepson Bernie Connally 19, arguing Snow did not quarrel with his wife over cows in the cotton patch. Witnesses Hill and Mrs Hill testified Snow worked in the patch with cows nearby and Hill saw Connally's head at the morgue but feared to identify it due to Snow’s threats.

Douphitt Briggs received a two year suspended sentence for manslaughter in the slaying of Mrs Dolly Gameson near Marlin in October. He was released on his own recognizance.
In a Saturday afternoon incident at Domino Hall on Harrison Street Antone Metters died from a neck wound after a dispute over a $5 debt during a domino game. Sam Baker surrendered to Potter County Jail and faced no charges yet while an inquest was opened by Judge Landis.
