A 21 year old Latin man surrendered to Plainview police with his attorney Sunday facing murder charges in the shooting death of his neighbor. The incident prompted a police investigation and a court appearance is expected.
Two Marine Corps Reserve attack bombers collided and crashed on Sunday near Santa Ana California. One plane destroyed two two story dwellings in Leisure World Laguna Hills killing four people and injuring five. The other aircraft crashed near El Toro Marine Air Station after departing New York in rain.
Ronald Biddulph arrived in Vietnam with basic gear and a will to survive. He returned to Amarillo with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart after sustaining a wounded arm during a fierce Mon Ton road ambush. He continued to lead his armored personnel carrier and resisted evacuation despite injuries, earning praise in the Army citation. The 1963 Amarillo High graduate highlighted the changing fear in the final months of service. He is the son of Don and Mrs. Biddulph of 2309 Roberts in Amarillo.
U S fighter bombers raided two rail lines feeding Hanoi for the sixth straight day as Communist MIGs engaged the raiders in the air. Saturday raids saw three U S planes downed by ground fire, with four airmen missing and total U S aircraft losses reaching 465.
Northern California's fiercest storm drenched the region then moved south dropping 1.91 inches in Los Angeles and causing hundreds of crashes. CHP warned driving was extremely dangerous as rain-slicked freeways produced spinouts and crashes. one vehicle fire and injuries were reported.
At the Amarillo Stock Show RCA Rodeo many past and present champions competed but only two of 13 current or former champions made the first go-round pay line. Larry Mahan took a second in saddle bronc, Jim Bynum was second in steer wrestling, while Darrell Williams won steer wrestling’s first go with a 4.6 second run.

Gene Thomas Hudspeth 34 of Borger was shot in the chest with a 300 magnum rifle by Skellytown dealer Gene Harlan after Hudspeth, who had stolen from Harlan, shouted at him outside Harlan's business. Hudspeth died holding an unfired pistol. Harlan arraigned for murder with malice and released on his own recognizance. Sheriff Nunn notes elements of self defense amid threats.
