In Washington the government plans to seize strike bound meat packing plants to end the meat shortage. Assistant Secretary of Labor John W. Gibson said seizure would proceed even without firm commitments from CIO and AFL unions to return workers.
Secretary of War Patterson urged readiness to serve at home and abroad while stressing duties to preserve peace. He spoke during a world tour that the Occupation Force should be voluntary and that Germany’s western boundary and a central Reich administration must be settled, with possible concessions to end the France impasse.
A large blaze destroyed the Cee The Campbell Garage and Service Station in Umbarger yesterday. Canyon and Hereford fire crews battled flames but could not save the building or its contents, a school bus, and a county truck. gasoline was saved, but dozens of oil barrels exploded, toppling their tops. No injuries were reported. Telephone lines were severed. Loss extent undetermined.
A proposal for 425000 dollars in construction at Amarillo Veterans Hospital was sent to the House for approval in the 1945 independent offices appropriation bill. The plan adds no new beds but funds therapy shops staff quarters laundry chapel roads landscaping and related facilities.

An American Russian and British communiqué announced that operable surface units of the German fleet along with 30 submarines would be divided equally among the Big Three. The Potsdam conference authorized a tripartite naval commission to implement the plan as surplus U boats in UK ports have been sunk.
Kenny Delmar, 34, the actor behind the radio character Claghorn, will address the Texas Brags Dinner in Washington on January 30. He portrays a southern senator on the Fred Allen program and is set for a first appearance in the House, introduced by Rep West of Texas, with Lufkin seeking inclusion in the event.
