Hostesses included Betty Knight Simon West Blanche Patton Christine Bauman Frances Honey and Sara Margaret Ellis. Reports highlighted Frances Britain's talk on AJLA staff assignments and member activities. Various notes mention travels staff work reading gifts colors decor and outfits.
At the annual Les Temps Club meeting in the Federation Club Rooms Mrs. Raymond Andrews presided. Officers elected include Mrs. Maynard Drake president and Mrs. Lon Edwards recording secretary. Mrs. Willborn named yearbook chair and Mrs. Holland led the Winter Wheat program.
Miss Vela Jean Russell daughter of Mr and Mrs William Ross Russell 901 Carolina Street will marry Albert Edward Frantz Jr son of Major and Mrs A E Frantz in West Amarillo Christian Church at 3 pm The ceremony will be read by Dr John W Darby Bridesmaids Usher party Best man Cpl William F Keel Denver stationed at Amarillo Army Air Field and more details of reception and attire. After Feb 15 the couple will reside in Chicago.
The Scorpion crew, forced down in Sardinia, burned the bomber and escaped to hills. They learned German troops had evacuated the island and became welcomed heroes in Oristano, where the mayor and provincial governor hosted them for three days. A crew member of Italian parentage was named honorary mayor with others made honorary aldermen.
Miss Ada Belle Williams of Lipan Texas became the bride of Lt. Robert G. Crane of Cleveland Ohio in a 2 PM Saturday Jan 15 ceremony at Polk Street Methodist Church parlor. The couple will reside at 1314 A Fillmore Street.
Mrs William Hand hosted the Gay Gads Club at her home at 1918 Lincoln Street with a covered dish luncheon. Guests included Mrs Otis Haley and Mrs Sherman Best. Attending members were Mesdames Armstrong Dunn Hand Webb and Immell. Mrs Immell will entertain next at 3106 Tyler Street.
Mr and Mrs A E Womble announce the marriage of their daughter Diane to Thurman King U S Navy on January 12 at Long Beach California. The bride wore a dusty rose suit with white gardenias and pink rosebuds. Best man Bob Randall attended. A reception followed. The couple will reside at 331 Molino Street Long Beach. Mrs King graduated AmARillo High School and worked at White Kirk's. King hails from Nashville Tennessee and has served in the Navy two years.
