The Senate approved a hot oil bill by voice vote to block interstate shipments of illegally produced petroleum. The measure, aimed at patching the gap created by the Supreme Court ruling against section 9 C of the National Recovery Act, carries two amendments and moves to the House where similar bills exist.
Senator Connally of Texas secured the floor to press action on his hot oil bill. A dispute arose with Senator Robinson of Arkansas and Senator Schall of Minnesota, stretching the session before Connally ended it remarking the measure is an oil bill, not a gas bill.
A new measure drawn by Senator Connally proposes outright federal control of crude oil production. The plan, authored by the Texas Democrat and author of section 9-C, would forbid interstate shipments of contraband oil.
Secretary Ickes condemned Texas for vast natural gas waste in the Panhandle during a nationwide radio address from New York. He called the waste the most flagrant among U.S. natural resources and noted a billion cubic feet daily lost in Texas oil fields alongside gas waste. Newspapers nationwide are joining the effort against oil and gas waste.

Two abrupt dangerous curves on Highway No 5 into Amarillo will be removed by a new road cutting diagonally across Famous Heights Park. The route shifts from the present highway at Tenth Avenue Osage Street then runs southeasterly past Radio Station KGRS to Seventeenth Avenue Grand Street, leaving city limits with a southward curve. The current highway runs east to the Tri State Fairgrounds then snakes south and east. The new alignment leaves East Tenth Avenue near the old lake bed East Amarillo lake and will have a caliche base. Right of way for the elimination.
The body of William Weiss, alleged kidnap victim of the Tri-State Gang, was recovered from Neshaminy Creek. Martin Farrell identified the corpse, ending two months of the abduction mystery as Mais and Legenza were captured in New York and the Tri-State Band's remains were nabbed.
Frances Brady aged 13 months was found dead in her crib from carbon monoxide poisoning in Wichita Falls on January 22. Her parents Mrs. and Mrs. M. J. Brady and housekeeper Moretta Middlebrooks were ill from exposure. the mother was away at a business college when she returned home to the tragedy.
Houston police ended the search for Thomas H. Robinson, accused kidnapper of Mrs. Alice Speed Stoll, after determining the tip directing the hunt was erroneous. The inquiry stalled in the Houston area as investigators announced the lead was not valid.
Kansas City cattle market set a four year high with steers at 12.50 a hundred for a 1025 pound load of yearlings. The price last reached this level in December 1959.
The Texas House Committee on state affairs recommended passage of an administration bill to create a state planning board to develop public works projects with federal funding. A $12 000 appropriation was kept, and six governor appointees plus the secretary of state would serve with no salaries. The board would supersede the prior voluntary agency and begin outlining a recovery program.

A car stolen from an Allentown physician was found near Monroe Michigan with the motor running as a rural carrier saw a man walk away toward Monroe. Ontario police blockaded the Windsor to Amherstburg border amid a possible bid to reach Montreal.
Plans for Word Ranch lake near Amarillo envision a boathouse restrooms and 150 yard clearance around the water with a 75 man crew from relief rolls to police and improve grounds. A nominal admission fee would fund upkeep and a brood pond system may stock fish while Austin approves state relief.
Mrs Charles Barnes appeared in New York court to answer speeding charges against her brother Warren A Le vett 22. She entered a guilty with explanations plea noting he hurried to take an aunt to a prayer meeting on time. Magistrate Benjamin Greenspan suspended sentence, commenting it might encourage church attendance.
The Great Plain Farm Pond and Terracing Association invites members to Amarillo on February 8 to discuss preventing droughts by binding small ponds on each Panhandle Plains farm. The plan also promotes terracing to hold moisture where it falls and reduce future dry spells.

Gov. James V. Allred revoked the conditional pardon previously granted to Vincent Thomas, who was sentenced last February to five years for robbery with firearms in Jefferson County. The revocation followed advice from Dallas County District Attorney Robert L. Hurt that Thomas was under arrest in Dallas on four highway robbery cases.
