Woman Choked to Death at Home in Potter Co

Mrs Jimmie Louise Gibson, 49, was found dead in her 3812 E 22nd Street home Tuesday afternoon. She appeared choked with a head scarf she wore from work. Husband Lawrence Gibson reported the body after returning home around 5:15 p.m. An autopsy was ordered for the next morning. Sheriff Paul Gaither said a “good suspect” was being questioned into the early hours. Read continued on Page 2.

One Dies in City Traffic Fatality of 1958

Mrs. Vera Lee Jonas, 46, of 306 River Drive Pleasant Valley, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Hospital from injuries in a two car collision at 11th and N. Grant. It marked the first city traffic fatality of 1958.

Two Women Reported In Serious Condition At St. Anthony's

Move Up Completion Date for Expressway

Amarillo Expressway from downtown Amarillo to Canyon city limits could be completed within two years. Officials said the entire stretch might be under contract by year end. District highway engineer Chili Smith and district expressway engineer Byron Reese discussed right of way purchase policies with City Commission including tentative target dates.

Last Day For Poll Tax Sales In Amarillo Area

Friday, Jan. 31, is the last day for poll tax sales. Poll tax receipts for Randall County residents are at the Randall County substation, 3808 Bowie, with J. L. Clower in charge. Potter County residents buy at the office of Hubert Cole, 600 Fillmore. Poll tax costs $1.75 and one spouse may buy for the other.

Typist Found Guilty of Murder in California

Elaine Soule, 20, was found guilty of second degree murder in Redwood City after a trial lasting about two hours. The case concerns the July 24 beating and stabbing death of roommate Catherine Elvins, 19, of Seattle. Sentencing ranges from five years to life with an additional insanity verdict to be decided by a separate panel.

Herefords Top Show at Amarillo Stock Show

The Amarillo Stock Show spotlighted top Hereford bulls and heifers with four grand championships. Bridwell Hereford Ranch swept the Hereford Breeding Show by taking both grand champion Hereford bull and heifer.
