Tri State Fair grounds will host a royal display of Anxiety 4th descendants as 60 blue blood Herefords are shown in a redesigned cattle court. The Anxiety Hereford Breeders sale runs Friday after a Wednesday noon display with 40 head bedded and precautions taken against the cold snap.
The Anxiety Hereford Breeders association, formed last year to promote the Hereford strain, plans an annual sale. A special selection committee picked animals, restricted only to leave each breeder's herd sire, with a credentials team verifying pedigrees up to five generations. Officers include G. E. Ross as president with W. A. McSpadden, Pete Starnes, and J. N. Dulaney in senior roles.

Beef packers from Fort Worth Dallas Mt Pleasant rushed Amarillo cattle markets pushing average prices up 50 cents to 1.00 with a top of 16.00 at the Amarillo Livestock Auction Co. ring. Heavy fed heifers locked around 15.25 while good heavy calves topped 15.50 as packers vied to meet ongoing requirements.
Vernon and Gainesville showed strong attendance at the sale. East Texas Packing Co of Mount Pleasant bought four carloads before afternoon, while down state packers face market cuts since the Fort Worth packinghouse workers strike halted movement. See full report Page 7.

The Texas Senate rejected Governor Stevenson’s pick Harry B Crozier for the unemployment commission. The session also voted to reconvene Monday and to question the legality of Crozier’s salary warrant. Crozier, a close Stevenson ally, was the sole recess appointment confirmed from over 100 named.
The Texas Senate adopted a resolution urging Congress to investigate the Rapido River disaster in Italy calling it a murderous blunder. Sen. J Franklin Spears of San Antonio, a 36th Division veteran, led the move which echoed the 36th Division Reunion at Brownwood. The War Department defended General Clark saying the action reduced German pressure at Anzio and the men did not die in vain.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration is advancing construction of an instrument landing system at the international airport in Brownsville. An additional system is planned for Amarillo, officials said this week.
Maj. Arthur W. Wermuth, age 31, famed as the one-man army of Bataan, indicated today he plans to seek the Democratic nomination for U S senator from Michigan. He said he is interested but declined fuller comment until his Army terminal leave ends February 1. The piece notes a local automotive ad at 10th and Fillmore.
President Truman in a state of the union address urged extending food subsidies beyond their June 30 expiry to prevent a sharp rise in living costs. He warned that ending subsidies could lift meat by three to five cents per pound, butter about 12 cents, milk a cent per quart, bread a cent per loaf, sugar over a cent per pound, and cheese eight cents per pound. He requested about 3.44 billion dollars for subsidies and related programs in the new fiscal year, noting current costs about 1.75 billion annually.
Reconversion Director John W. Snyder warned inflation threats require price controls and higher production to avert an economic Pearl Harbor. He urged extending the Price Control Act beyond midyear and warned demand may outpace supply beyond June 30. He outlined 1946 projections in foods housing jobs clothing trade autos and agriculture and called for direct farm payments to safeguard income.
An eight member committee of milk producers from Amarillo and Lubbock met Dallas OPA officials led by R C Hughes and Francis A Weber seeking a ceiling increase. They cited higher costs for feed and production as well as no pasture due to drought. OPA stated it cannot raise ceilings locally and would report to Washington.
Governor Stevenson proposed moving the poll tax payment deadline from January 31 to June 1 or 15. The announcement was made in Austin and discusses extending the filing window amid tax enforcement discussions.
President Truman asked Congress to enact a revised 21 point plan, with extensions for price controls and War Powers beyond June 30, plus continuation of food subsidies if living costs stay high. The list includes wage increases, universal military training, social security for veterans, atomic energy control, and Great Lakes–St Lawrence development, among other measures.
