Washington January 21 Officials warn a Republican Senate may withhold confirmation for Wilson 20 000 nominations causing many recess appointees to lose jobs after March 4. Some aides expect committee reviews to test conditions in executive departments before acting.
Ralph Crews counsel for Consolidated Coal tells Senate Manufactures Committee that the Calder coal regulation bill would destroy export trade. He says American coal could not compete with British mines if the measure allows a declared emergency to divert shipments in peacetime, citing a 750000 ton contract abroad held up pending decision on the bill.

Martens arrived in 1916 to represent Perm steel works and announced himself in 1919 as the representative of the Russian socialist federal soviet republic, but his credentials were not recognized by the U S government.
Raymond Burleigh, claimed to be the youngest American Expeditionary Forces soldier, wed Corrine Buffum in Lincoln Nebraska. He enlisted in 1917 at about age 11 and served 29 months in France, later admitting he was around 18 at marriage. Parents say he appeared mature and enlisted near 12 in St Joseph Missouri.
Mary Watson Whitney astronomy professor emeritus at Vassar College died at her home in Waltham Massachusetts on January 21. She was a member of several scientific societies and authored numerous papers on astronomy.
The National Merchant Marine Association closed its second annual convention in Washington with a push for a constructive policy to develop and maintain an American merchant fleet. Oklahoma City Jan 21 Dec ision in the Red River boundary case between Oklahoma and Texas may be reached Monday, says Attorney General S P Freeling. The case was argued before the U S Supreme Court in December. The governor urged $50 000 for the 1887 bank surveying as part of the boundary dispute.

By Associated Press Chicago January 21 forty two indictments were returned by a federal grand jury charging mill owners labor leaders and carpenter contractors with conspiring to keep world ing materials manufactured outside Chicago from reaching the Chicago market to raise prices. The cases were presented before Federal Judge George A Carpenter.
Members of the local American Legion post at Muskogee Oklahoma denounced proposed Sunday blue laws and praised Kansas Legion posts for driving away the Non-Partisan League. A copy of the resolution will be sent to other posts and to A C Townley warning him to stay away from Oklahoma.
A mass meeting at the county courthouse endorsed Mayor Lon D. Marra for re election and backed Fred Bone for city commissioner No 1 and John Boyce for commissioner No 2. Attendees debated a platform and emphasized completing public improvements to reduce unemployment. The gathering included several hundred citizens and about thirty women. In Muskogee Oklahoma January 21 police and detectives secure streets after a negro bandit is killed by motorman W M Linn. Five shots hit Linn s car and a white woman s scream prompted patrols. Linn received police protection and a commission as reward for his actions.
