Balloonist vanishes in Catalina Island to Newport Beach race

California search teams scoured 50 miles from San Clemente to San Diego for Mrs. Barbara Keith a Hartford Connecticut balloonist missing after the eight balloon race from Santa Catalina Island to the mainland. Ed Yost won the cross channel event finishing near San Clemente in two hours forty minutes while others were rescued or unaccounted for.

Grass Blaze Halted in Hemphill County Ranch Land

CANADIAN Jan 19 Two grass fires joined to burn about seven sections of ranch land near Glazier ten miles northeast of Canadian. Fire Chief John Wilkerson said the fires, started two miles south and two miles southwest of Glazier, merged as wind whipped the flames. Firefighters from seven communities aided, and the fire was controlled after a back fire. The IV Ranch lands were largely burned and origin undetermined. It was not started by a train.

Wind and rain flooded streams and knocked down trees across Oregon and Washington.
