An organized drive to cut wheat acreage by 40 percent in the Panhandle and adjoining states begins this afternoon with a mass meeting at Amarillo Municipal Auditorium. Hundreds of farmers, bankers, grain men, and county agents are expected to attend, according to reports to Lester Stone, chairman of the drive.
In Clovis New Mexico A W Hockenhull Lieutenant Governor and bank president reports many farmers and business men back the Amarillo plan to reduce wheat acreage. He believes full cooperation will come from the region and notes strong local support for the initiative.
The meeting starts at 2 o clock with J M Crews of Childress presiding over the general arrangements. Crews, president of the Panhandle Bankers Association, says both the Panhandle Bankers and Panhandle Grain Dealers associations endorsed the plan first outlined by Mr Stone at a conference in Amarillo last Wednesday. Delegations from Oklahoma New Mexico and Kansas will also take part in the meeting.

Miss Enid Marriott a 26 year old Wiggins schoolteacher missing over two months was found encased in four feet of ice in an irrigation canal near Fort Morgan. A road worker Harry E Moore is jailed on abduction charges and a murder charge is expected. Evidence includes a blood stained shirt and a handkerchief with the initial M. Owens confirmed he was in Wiggins the night she disappeared and alibi offered but not supported.
A large search in Cochran county and nearby areas for Charles A. Guy L H Quinn and Mrs Guy intensified after reports they were seen Sunday near Demahan. Mayor Clements mobilized a posse at dawn Tuesday as an Avalanche Journal plane and ground teams combed the region for traces.
The Phillips Filling Station at Sixth and Belleview was robbed of about $30 at 7:45 PM Monday night. Two men in a Chrysler coupe held Wayne Larson at gunpoint, one man rifled the cash drawer, leaving pennies and three nickels. The pair fled. a car matching the description was later spotted near Line Avenue and Georgia. Police were alerted and protection provided, but no further contact occurred.
