Governor George H. Earle said federal ownership of Pennsylvania anthracite lands is the only cure, following a conference with two operators two union leaders and an anthracite commission. He plans to seek Roosevelt support and envisions purchase or condemnation of coal lands while mines stay privately operated.
Gov A Harry Moore inaugurated today and appointed John Milton of Jersey City to succeed him as United States senator. Milton is personal counsel to Mayor Frank Hague of Jersey City.
The Texas Senate investigation into the State Game Commission charged political meddling and mismanagement, subpoenas issued for two witnesses after one refused a telephoned invitation and the other could not be found. Jess Showers and Ed J. St. John were targeted as witnesses amid claims of a political ring and favoritism toward the wealthy.
CORPUS CHRISTI Jan 18 William McCormack and Jack Boyer both oil men from Los Angeles were found seriously beaten on a road near Portland Texas today police reported.
Farm Security Administration officials gathered for a five state regional conference in Amarillo as Dr. W. W. Alexander praised county field workers for making the national program a success. 150 to 200 workers from Texas New Mexico Oklahoma Colorado and Kansas attended with regional and national officials speaking on regionalization and program leadership.
