In Fort Worth Texas on January 18 a jury found Sam Lucas guilty of second degree murder in the Seventeenth District court after twelve hours of deliberation. The sentence imposes thirty five years in the State Penitentiary for the murder of Mand Tatum at a rooming house on East Thirteenth Street. Lucas showed no emotion as verdict was read and his attorneys filed a motion for a new trial.
Denver reports the Colorado Wroring Retail Lumbermen's Association closed its annual session with W H Elworthy of Fort Collins reelected as President. Taft plans a weekend trip to New York and New Haven to attend Yale Corporation meeting and Hanover Chamber of Commerce events. In New York he will join a Par Association dinner and Society of the Genesee gathering.
Senator Francis G Newlands of Nevada said he will not allow his name to be entered as a candidate and issued a letter endorsing Governor Woodrow Wilson. He had prior endorsement from Nevada's legislature and support pledges from Pacific and inter mountain states.
