Detroit January 16 AP. The CIO United Auto Workers demanded a 25 cent an hour wage rise plus fringe demands totaling about 30 cents. Reuther said the union will back demands with a strike if needed and called for a guaranteed weekly wage and three week vacations for five year seniority. The 25 cent figure hinges on the cost of living and could be revised by May 1. Negotiations with General Motors are planned for February 28 with talks to begin within ten days. Chrysler and Ford declined comment.

One Injured in Traffic Crash
E N Patman a 46 year old resident of 808 Vernon remained in St. Anthony's Hospital in critical condition after being struck by a 1947 Mercury driven by Kent Hodges 17 of Route 3. The collision occurred near East Third and Grand Avenue as Hodges approached the intersection. Patman suffered a dislocated hip skull fracture and a splintered left leg with multiple cuts and abrasions. Hodges told investigators he did not see the pedestrian cross and slowed before the impact. He then called an ambulance from N S Griggs Sons and escaped injury.
