Red Cross Faces Senate Hurdles in Relief Funding Push
Washington Jan 16 Red Cross officials told President Hoover the Senate was piling up difficulties by proposing funding relief directly from the government. They said the plan undermines their drive for public subscriptions of 10 million dollars to buy food and clothing for bread relief. Democratic leaders pressed for a 25 million dollar appropriation for drought relief. A total Red Cross contribution reached 391 thousand with a 100 thousand gift from Mrs Edward Harkness of New York City. Pampa Woman Shot as Husband Is Arrested
Mrs. C. F. Wilson, about 85, is hospitalized with powder burns and a facial gash from a shotgun blast while riding on the Mobeetie highway six miles east of Pampa. Her husband Chuck Wilson was arrested in Pampa at 8 pm and held for investigation. He runs the Be-Square Generator Shop.

Two prominent Amarillo residents, Mayor Ernest Thompson and grain man J N Beasley, publicly support the Amarillo plan to reduce wheat acreage by 40 percent as the farmers salvation. The plan, adopted at a bankers farmers and grain dealers meeting, will be presented to Panhandle on Tuesday. Invitations are sent to bankers grain men and county agents from Oklahoma and Kansas to attend in Amarillo at 2 pm.

Texas House Moves On Drivers License Bills
In Austin on January 16 the Texas House introduced two drivers license bills with a third expected in the Senate next week. Dallas attorney Jack Keller and Houston’s Rolland Bradley led the House efforts, aiming for economy and no 8 million Texans paying a fee to drive. The measures include suspensions for drunken driving, false affidavits, felonies under motor vehicle laws, homicide from vehicle operation, multiple reckless driving charges, and failing to stop at fatal accidents. Minors under 18 require parental consent. nonresidents may drive for 10 days without a Texas license with home-state license recognition. Bradley’s version adds a license space for entries.

Grocer uses buckshot to foil two burglars
Ed Morley, grocer at 1408 East Third Avenue, woke to his burglar alarm and fired buckshot as two men escaped from the next door store. A stash of foodstuffs was left outside the window as the burglars fled, and Morley believes one assailant was struck. The burglars disappeared into the night.

Hudson Tubes Train Leaves Rails 17 Hurt
A seven car Hudson tubes train near Sixth Avenue and Thirty third Street wrecked after first car left the rails. Nineteen passengers injured though none seriously.
