A Sunday rally in Trafalgar Square and Whitehall backing the white government of Rhodesia erupted into a street fight in London. The report notes police intervention as demonstrators clashed over the controversial regime.
Philadelphia officials race to manage Monday rush hour as 5000 Transport Workers Union members strike the Philadelphia Transportation Co. Buses trolleys and subways halt, citywide parking and routing plans activated and police ordered to enforce parking rules.

Jerry Joe Delong and Thomas Delong and James Elmer Coomer, all from Indiana and Kentucky area, were charged with interstate transportation of a stolen car after a two state manhunt. They allegedly wounded Canute, Oklahoma City Marshal Gerald Kupka and fled from a Putnamville prison farm. Kupka remains hospitalized with two chest gunshot wounds. The suspects were to be transported to Amarillo for formal charging as FBI investigates.
Police dispersed a rally in London where thousands demonstrated in support of Rhodesia’s white government. About 5,000 listened as Duncan Sandys spoke. 11 people were arrested amid scuffles and a stampede toward Downing Street.
Katheryn Jowell Blackwell, 28, mother of three from Bushland, died four hours after a two car crash at Amarillo Boulevard and Tennessee. John Melvin Galloway, 37, driver of the other car, remained in serious condition. Five others were injured. Blackwell’s children were Kathy Junell 7 Jimmy Junell 6 Gregg Rex Allison 3. Funeral plans set in Blackburn Shaw. Boise City cemetery services planned. Survivors include her parents and several sisters.
Sandys warned Mr. Wilson that using British troops to enforce a settlement in Rhodesia would provoke an explosion of indignation in Britain. He said the British people would not tolerate a shooting war with Rhodesia and that many African governments judging Rhodesia were themselves illegal regimes.
The coldest weather of the season grips the nation s middle as the Weather Bureau warns of continuing frigid air. Temperatures fell to 20 below in Minnesota and rose only to near zero across the Upper Mississippi Valley, with the chill dipping as far south as the Tennessee Valley and Texas interior overnight.

Major issue is a roughly 190 million dollar state budget with no expected tax hike. House Speaker Bruce King says they will align with the governor and review school financing.
Military sources report the Viet Cong shot and killed one prisoner at a Mekong Delta camp found by Vietnamese troops. Seven other prisoners faced injuries or capture as government forces advanced. Also, a CH47 helicopter was shot down southwest of Saigon, eight U.S. servicemen killed, one missing. In the Iron Triangle drive north of Saigon, enemy losses approach six hundred as clashes occur.
U S District Judge Oliver Gasch will hear a motion to dismiss larceny fraud and income tax evasion charges against former Senate Democrat secretary Baker. The defense argues illegal eavesdropping tainted evidence and seeks suppression of Bromley derived material. If denied, Baker faces nine counts with potential 48 years in jail and fines.
