CHICAGO Jan 15 P A W Conover president of the North Shore Gas Company testified at a Federal Power Commission hearing that continuing manufactured gas would be economic suicide and urged approval of an emergency natural gas service plan. He cited a 75 percent rise in coal prices and other cost increases while the commission weighs certificates for North Shore, Natural Gas Pipeline of America, Texas- Ima Natural Gas, and Chicago District Pipeline Company. The proposed additions total 17 347 946 dollars for expanded gas deliveries across Illinois Iowa and Wisconsin with hearings running through Jan 24 and resuming in Detroit.

Manila January 15. At a war crimes trial Lt Gen Masaharu Homma heard of Sgt Isaac Landy who amid a Philippines massacre shouted Long live America as he was shot with nine others.
