Brazil exiled 70 prisoners to Chile at midnight in exchange for the release of Swiss Ambassador Giovanni Bucher after a 38 day captivity. The group included 59 men 11 women and three children. Chile offered asylum but said it would not cover their hotel or resettlement costs.
Dan John Hall and Jan Frost Hall were found guilty of sale of hashish by a jury and each received 10 years probation. Spectator Pat Jackson was held in contempt after threatening jurors and cursing them as verdicts were read. a hearing was set for Friday morning.

Amarillo officials propose a 10 member metropolitan squad to fight major and organized crime and serve as a central intelligence unit for five government entities in Potter and Randall counties. The three year plan totals about 364 500 funded by the entities and a Criminal Justice Council grant with a potential grant approval by March.
