Police pressed for leads in the Degnan girl's kidnapping and murder as a 45 year old man with a sex offense record is held for questioning. Detective Chief Walter Storms said the man passed a lie detector test but will be detained for a show-up. Suzanne Degnan's father expressed fear and urged the capture of the killer. The Navy announced plans to expedite discharge for personnel nearing eligibility who lack suitable assignments. Vice Admiral Louis E. Denfeld, chief of the bureau of personnel, said orders have gone to commanding officers authorizing faster separations.
Admiral Denfeld frames a plan to extend releases in cases where suitable work cannot be found within the naval district or the person’s home district. Jewell Anderson a 40 year old black man was critically injured yesterday afternoon when he fell from the fourth floor to the basement while four coworkers cleaned the elevator mechanism in the Fisk Building. Police say he was wedged between the elevator and shaft as weight shifted. He was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital with chest injuries additional broken bones and possible internal injuries.
Vice Admiral Blandy announced tests against warships will occur this year but not before spring. He described the tests as a major joint effort with the Army and civilian scientists to explore new weapons and their implications for national defense.
